Hi!

my H7550BD DLP projector on my gaming/theatre setup randomly popped today at approx. 2997 hours on the counter, I powered it on, it did the power on/off beep, and showed the ‘Acer Explore Beyond Limits’ screen, it remained on for at least 1 Minute before the bulb popped and the image disappeared, the blue power light remained on until i pressed the power button twice on the remote, and the projector did its little power off beep and went into a normal standby condition.

the only thing that i can’t get my head round, is the projector did not display any warning messages, not indicator lights illuminated nor did it emit any warning beeps prior to this happening.

does anyone know what could have caused this? any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Your Acer H7550BD projector bulb giving you 2,990 hours of service is a very generous lifespan, these projector bulbs life expectancy is between 1,500 to 2,000 hours so be aware of that, as its advisable for these bulbs to be replaced between those hours. Have a look at "Guide to Projector Lamp Replacement" as this applies to your Acer projector too. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

How to Tell When to Change a Projector Bulb

Most projector lamps last between 1,500 and 2,000 hours, but some can last up to 5,000 hours. Most projectors will need one to two bulb swaps during this time.

Unlike other bulbs that go out once expended, the high-pressure mercury and xenon used in projector lamps cause bulbs to dim over time. Once the lamp light is at about half its original luminescence, it’s time to replace it. You can continue to use the bulb until complete failure, but doing so impacts image quality.

Check how many useful hours your lamp has left in the menu options of the projector. User manuals have specific steps for this process.

Manufacturers and product testers judge life expectancy based on a bell curve of a bulb. Most projector lamps come with a 90-day or 3-month warranty instead of a warranty that reflects its rated life span.
