Hi everyone,

As the title says, I’m having serious overheating issues with my Acer Aspire A515-56G laptop, especially now in summer when room temps hit 30–35°C. Even when I play older, low-demand games (that usually run over 60 FPS), the system starts to overheat within 10–15 minutes the temp hits 75-80°C. Sometimes it happens even while just browsing.

I’ve already tried capping FPS in games/Lowering the CPU power plan (%)/Elevating the laptop for airflow…But sadly, nothing really helped.

I’m now considering undervolting the CPU to lower temps, but I have zero experience with this and don’t want to risk messing anything up.

If anyone here owns the same model and has managed to undervolt successfully, I’d really appreciate a step by step guide or just some advice on how safe it is and what tools to use (XTU vs. ThrottleStop?).

Thanks in advance!

Hi, The Acer Aspire 5 A515-56G is not a gaming laptop, It’s best described as an all-rounder with light gaming capabilities. use Balanced Power plan and Best Power Efficiency mode in Power & Battery settings and disable Turbo Boost.

Hello, yes I'm aware of those settings, the turbo boost is already disabled also I'm using the battery on power saving mode.

The Acer Aspire 5 A515-56g overheating during gaming and browsing, with temperatures reaching 75-80°C within 10-15 minutes, is a common issue. It's often caused by dust buildup, poor ventilation, or a failing fan. To address this, try cleaning the vents and fan, ensuring proper airflow, and potentially replacing the thermal paste.

    Troubleshooting Steps:-
    1. Clean Dust and Debris: Turn off the laptop and unplug it.
Use compressed air to blow out dust from the vents and fan area. Be careful not to damage the fan blades.
Consider opening the laptop (if comfortable) to clean the heatsink and fan more thoroughly, but be cautious about voiding any warranty.
    2. Improve Ventilation:
Place the laptop on a hard, flat surface to allow proper airflow. Avoid using it on soft surfaces like beds or laps.
Consider using a cooling pad to further improve airflow and lower temperatures.
    3. Check Fan Functionality:
Ensure the fan is spinning when the laptop is under load. If it's not running or making unusual noises, it may need replacement.
    4. Monitor Temperatures:
Use monitoring software to track CPU and GPU temperatures during gaming. This can help identify specific components that are overheating.

    5. Consider Thermal Paste Replacement:
If cleaning and ventilation don't help, the thermal paste between the CPU/GPU and the heatsink may have dried out and needs replacement. This is a more advanced troubleshooting step and may require professional assistance.
    6. Adjust Power Settings:
In the power settings, you can adjust settings to reduce the CPU's performance and potentially lower temperatures. However, this may affect performance during gaming.

    Additional Tips:
    Update Drivers:
Ensure your graphics card and other drivers are up to date, as this can sometimes help with performance and temperature issues.
    Close Unnecessary Programs:
Close background applications that may be consuming resources and contributing to overheating.
    Consider Professional Help:
If you're not comfortable performing these steps yourself, consider taking your laptop to a qualified technician for assistance.
