Why is my new Samsung SSD showing as Disk 0 instead of the original system drive on AN17-42?

I recently added a second SSD, a Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB, to my Acer Nitro 17 (AN17-42-R9FK). I installed it in the free slot on the right side (when viewed from the back).
However, I noticed that in Disk Management, the new Samsung SSD appears as Disk 0, while the original pre-installed Hynix SSD shows up as Disk 1.

Shouldn’t the system drive be Disk 0? This seems illogical, and I’m concerned that during backups, the system drive might be treated as secondary — for example, prioritized after a drive with just movies and games.

Is it possible to switch the drive order via BIOS or software, or do I need to physically swap the drives? And if so, what consequences might this have, for example on Acer Recovery Management?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The Disk 0 and 1 makes no difference with a boot drive priority for your AN17-42 laptop, as both the M.2 SSD slots are Gen 4 x4 lane type and there is no designated boot slot like Disk 0 that must have the boot drive. Disk 0 is only designated as a boot drive slot, when a laptops SSD1 and SSD2 slots are different and the boot drive Disk 0 is a Gen 4 x4 and the Disk 2 slave slots is a Gen 3 x4 type slot. If you want the boot drive to be Disk 0, open the back of the laptop and change the M.2 that has the Win-11 OS from Disk 1 to Disk 0, its a simple process, don't do anything to the bios, as you don't need to. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.
