Hello everyone,

I’m reaching out for help after an unfortunate accident with my Acer Nitro V ANV15-51-54DL, 13th Gen Intel CPU with NVIDIA RTX 4050.

🔧 What happened:

A few days ago, I accidentally spilled coffee (no sugar) over the numeric keypad area of the keyboard while the laptop was turned on. I turned it off immediately and about 40 minutes later took to a professional technician.

🧼 What was done:

  1. The laptop was completely disassembled.
  2. Coffee was found inside the casing, and the technician cleaned all components.
  3. Components were immersed in an ultrasonic cleaning bath to remove potential oxidation.
  4. The unit was then placed in a drying oven for 13 hours.
  5. Isopropyl alcohol was used to clean contact points.
  6. A test SSD with a clean OS was installed to rule out software issues.

🧪 Symptoms after cleaning:

  • The keyboard had multiple malfunctioning keys, some with double input or random behavior.
  • Some keyboard LEDs stopped working.
  • The touchpad was also affected (not tested initially).
  • Most importantly, the dedicated GPU (RTX 4050) now shows Error Code 43 in Windows Device Manager.

We tried:

  • Swapping SSDs.
  • Cleaning the motherboard again.
  • Checking for connector damage.
  • Driver reinstalls (from Intel/NVIDIA/Acer).
  • Confirmed that iGPU works fine, but dGPU is unrecognized or disabled.

💡 Additional Notes:

  • The GPU is soldered (BGA).
  • The technician is considering a reballing procedure, quoted at $1500 only if successful.
  • The laptop is only 4 months old.
  • Before cleaning, the GPU was still recognized and functional.

❓My questions:

  1. Has anyone here successfully recovered a laptop GPU after ultrasonic cleaning?
  2. Could this be a soldering issue or internal chip damage? Any ways to tell for sure?
  3. Do you know any sources to buy a compatible GPU chip or motherboard (for Acer Nitro V ANV15-51)?
  4. Is reballing the GPU worth trying in this situation?

Hi, IMO not worth the costs, I would auction off the laptop at e-Bay and get a new Nitro V laptop for $1,129.99 with Intel Core i9-13900H, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD.

The reballing of the gpu could work but for the technician to charge you $1500 is ridiculous, as you must have spent allot of money already on this laptop which could be a waste of money. My advise to you as and even after the mobo was "immersed in an ultrasonic cleaning bath to remove potential oxidation" which also could have done further damage, as the best way to get rid of liquids spill and damage is not to immerse the whole mobo in an ultrasonic cleaning bath, but to clean a none sugary coffee liquid spill in its affected areas only, with just plain water and then drying it with hot air and allowing to dry for 24hours, as the bath could have done further damage and contributed to more faults of the mobo.

Note: for replacing your old ANV15-51 with a new i5-13420H/RTX4050 mobo at $2,146.07 USD (if you have the i7-13620H/RTX4050 it will cost even more) as doing that will be a waste of your money, As for even less, you would be much better off to buy either an i9-13900H/RTX4060 new Nitro ANV15-51 or even a better gaming laptop like and for even less from Best Buys in the USA (if you are in the USA) buy the newest 2025 Acer - Predator Helios Neo 16S AI Gaming Laptop - 16" OLED 165Hz - Intel Core Ultra 9 - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070Ti – 32GB – 1TB - Obsidian Black for $1,899.99 USD. So consider these options as you will wasting your time fixing your old ANV15-51 laptop.

Below is the parts that you will need if you decide to fix your old ANV15-51 laptop, so look these parts and do this swap of parts yourself. Good luck and hope this helps you out.
