Wd sn350 incompatible with my ph517-51-72vp?

My predator Helios 500 ph517-51 keeps freezing and shutting down automatically after replacing the ssd at the service station.

My ph517-51 crashed in early 2023 so I went to the local service station with my laptop. I was told that the ssd was bricked due to my having left my laptop on for several months and only closed it when not using it. They replaced the old ssd with a new sn350 and reinstalled the system in it(windows 10 home edition, same as before). They also repasted the cpu and cleaned the dust from my laptop. After that my laptop could boot and work normally. But several days later my laptop kept freezing on and off without blue screen. I thought something was wrong with the os so I had the system reinstalled again, only to find the issue getting worse. It not only freezes randomly but shuts down automatically as if it loses power suddenly (while actually the battery has power and the pc is still plugged). This issue, though not that frequent, has reoccurred several times until today and never gets fixed.

Curiously, this issue only occurs when the pc is not running a game (e.g. an AAA game). Sometimes the issue happens when I just click on a folder. My laptop seems to work fine under heavy load but tend to malfunction otherwise. So naturally I suspect that it has something to do with the new ssd (wd sn350). I have run a smart diagnosis on it but haven’t found any problems. I have also checked the temperature of each components and it turned out to be fine. So could it be that the new ssd is incompatible with my laptop? What ssd is compatible? I’m considering using a Samsung 990 evo plus to replace the sn350 as the system disk but I worry that it might not work fine.

Do you guys have any ideas? How can I solve the problem? Does resetting bios help?

PS: I already added a 990 evo plus 1T to my pc early this year for storing games and it works OK till now.

Things that come to mind are: SATA mode is not AHCI but RAID or RST+Optane, missing firmware updates that were previously delivered via Windows10 Update. Driver incompatibility with older Windows 10 builds. Power management issues, where Windows isn't handling idle states properly. The SN350 is a budget NVMe SSD and may not be fully optimized for high-performance gaming laptops. I recommend using the older Gen3 2019 Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 TB with DRAMM not the newer Gen4 Samsung 990. Have you tried to install Windows11 with the generic Microsoft drivers, maybe that will work, some users have tried running Windows 11 23H2 on the Predator Helios 500 (PH517-51), but experiences have been mixed. Some reported issues with audio drivers not working, while others mentioned that PredatorSense had compatibility problems. Also check BIOS that the SATA mode is AHCi.

The new 250GB WD SN350 M.2 SSD should be fully compatible with your Predator PH517-51 model laptop, as its a PCIe 3 x4 lane 8Gb/s NVMe type M.2 SSD drive that should perfectly work with your laptop storage specs.

Make sure that you have the last bios version 1.16 installed and also check the ram if any of the ram modules are not faulty, as and due to you having left your laptop on for several months and only closed it when not using it, the ram could have been affected also not only the M.2 SSD drive, so check the ram module(s) out also if they are faulty, as that is a main cause of freezing.

Also, update the NVidia dedicate gpu driver of your PH517-51 laptop to its latest Win-10 driver and do a Custom Install > Clean Install so that the new driver installation deletes all the previous NVidia gpu drivers on the Win-10 system that you have. Then make sure that you have last Win-10 updated and its updated to the April 22, 2025—KB5055612 (OS Build 19045.5796) Preview update also. do all as after doing this your laptop should operate perfectly without any freezing. DO NOT change any settings in the bios, set the bios at its default settings. Good luck and hope this helps you out and solves the problems that you are having.
