Predator Orion 5000 P05-650 crashing intermittently, Black screens, loud fans, not overheating

Firstly, I'm not a huge expert with PCs. The only time I've ever opened up a PC was for this one, when I upgraded the cooling to a Cooler Master Hyper 622.

This PC is about 6 months, with the cooling upgrade about 5 months old after it was running hot on my games.

Recently in the past week, the PC has started crashing intermittently, screens go black, and the cooler fans than go into hyper speed. I keep my temperature readings open on my screen and when the crashes happen, it's never in hot ranges as the cooler upgrade has really helped.

As well, its crashing under different scenarios. Sometimes it crashes when Im just browsing the internet. Othertimes, it crashes while gaming. Adding to that, sometimes I can play Microsoft Flight Sim and it doesnt crash over 8 hours of playing. Its really hard to replicate the problem as some days, it doesnt crash at all.

Im not an expert on comps and I didnt see anyone else having this issue with this PC, so I didnt really know where to start. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly, it would help if you told us the exact PO5-6xx model desktop that you have. What I would do is to unstill the new cpu cooler and put the oem Acer fitted cooler back and see if the desktop crashes after doing that, as it could be from the new cpu cooler and its fan connections that is causing these crashes.

If the desktop still crashes send your predator Orion 5000 back to Acer Tech Support in your country, as your desktop has issues that Acer should fix. The only problem with that is this, taking or changing any oem component(s) on these oem products like its oem cpu cooler out, your Acer warranty might be voided even if the desktop is still under the 12 months Acer warranty.

Also be aware that these intermittent power crashes could be from numerous sources and like from any external components that you have connected to the desktop, it could be from a faulty PSU, ram, SSD drive or and if you upgraded to an extra 2.5" or 3.5" HDD. Try to systematically diagnose this problem by taking anything that you have connected to the desktop externally and try your PO5-6xx desktop with only the components that were fitted by Acer when new and out of the box and see if the desktop crashes. If it does then send it to Acer tech Support in your country. Good luck and hope this guides you to a solution.

Let us do the basic steps first. First of all, we need to find out whether it is a hardware or software issue.

Here are some of the steps to speed up or increase the performance your computer. Try windows + r - on the run window - type msconfig - click ok
click on services
check - hide all microsoft services
click on disable all
click on startup
disable all the startup items
click on apply - ok - restart the computer. Loading process will be very fast now..Note: You can always enable the services and startup items later or set it to normal startup from selective startup later on the General tab Try windows + r - on the run window - type appwiz.cpl - click ok
it will show you the list of programs

remove all the unwanted third party programs.
Please don’t remove any drivers.
If you are not sure , please don’t remove it. Try windows + r - on the run window type temp - click ok - it will show you the bunch of files - try ctrl + a - select all files - press the shift key and click on delete files Try windows + r - on the run window type %temp% - click ok - It will show you the bunch of files - try ctrl + a - select all files - press the shift key and click on delete files If you are not able to remove some files - click on skip and then click click on continue.. Try windows + r - on the run window - type cleanmgr - click ok

click on all the boxes except recycle bin and thumnail
Delete the items which are checked Try windows x - on the menu - chose command prompt admin or power shell admin
click on yes
on the blue or black window type sfc /scannow
It will be running till 100 %Try to do a chrome reset
open chrome
click on three dots on top right corner
click on settings
Scroll down - go to advanced
click on restore setting to default
you will see reset settings - cancel
click on reset settings

Open chrome
it will work faster nowIf it is still not working then we have to do a refresh and resetclick on start - settings - update and security - recovery - reset this pc - get started or on start - type here to search - type reset this pc - click on reset this pc on the top - click on get started It will show you keep my files and remove everything
chose keep my files
chose the account - type the password - click on local reinstall - click on reset
It will be in progress..
login to computer and start using the computer.
If it is still not working click on start - settings - update and security - recovery - reset this pc - get started
chose remove everything

click on local reinstall - just remove my files - click on reset
It will be in progressNote:If you do refresh ( keep my files ) - all your personal files like pictures, music , documents , videos will still be intact. Only the applications will be lostIf you do reset ( remove everything ) - you are doing a factory default. It will become like a day one computer. It will wipe out everything and take your computer to day one like a new computer. You can also do the recovery in an alternative way..There are two alt keys on the keyboard. If you look at the bottom row of keyboard you can see the one on the left side of space bar and the other on the right side of space bar. The alt key on the right side will be looking like alt, alt gr or alt car. Turn off the computer. Hold the alt key on the left and tap f10 continuously. It will go to repair mode. It will show you chose an option, continue, troubleshoot. If it is not going to repair mode, turn off the computer. Turn on the computer. Hold the right alt key ( alt gr or alt car or alt ) and then tap f10 continuously. It will go to chose an option continue and troubleshoot..It will show you chose an option, continue, troubleshoot
Go to troubleshoot - click on reset this pc

click on keep my files ( only applications will be lost ) chose your account and type your password - click on local reinstall - click on reset
It will be in progress If the keep my files option is not working Go to troubleshoot - click on reset this pc – click on remove everything – click on local reinstall – just remove my files – click on reset
It will reinstall windows. If the just remove my files is not working..Go to troubleshoot - click on reset this pc – click on remove everything – click on local reinstall – Fully clean the drive – click on reset
It will reinstall windows. Note: You can also go to chose an option , continue , troubleshoot by holding the alt key + tapping f10 or alt gr + tapping f10 on the keyboard while turning on the computer. Once you see the troubleshoot option, you can stop tapping the f10 and stop holding the alt key. Then you can try the keep my files and remove everything ( just remove by files and fully clean the drive ) by following the steps which was mentioned above.

The model is a Predator P05-650.

Unfortunately, I never thought of keeping that cooler once I installed the new one. The guy at Memory Express didn't mention it, and said other people had upgraded their cooling on the Predator with the same one that I got. If I knew it would void the warranty, I don't think I would have done it, but the PC was drastically over-heating while playing MSFS.

I went into the reliability monitor and I was getting two LiveKernel Events for 117 and 141 which might be GPU related from my brief browsing. Is there any other factors I could be looking at for why its failing at a certain time? The GPU is only at 60 Celc when it crashes so I dont think I installed it incorrectly. It is keeping it cool.

The usual cpu cooler that Acer community members fitted to the PO5-650 desktops is the Noctua smaller NH-U9S_chromax_black or the bigger NH-U12S_chromax_black type cpu cooler and not the Cooler Master Hyper 622, which could be an issue also.

If you are getting the LiveKernel Events for 117 error you should completely remove the current Nvidia device driver using the widely available free DDU utility, then restart your PC and go to the Acer support page and start with the last NVidia driver listed on that page and install that driver, as this should fix the LiveKernel Events for 117 error.

Update or Rollback your Graphics Driver
Do not Overclock
Run SFC and DISM
Upgrade your CPU

In most countries, upgrading the cooling doesn't void warranty, though I assume there are exceptions. Damaging the comput6er during the upgrade could void the warranty in most places, just as dropping the case and breaking something would.

Thanks for the assistance. So which Nvidia driver and utility should I be downloading? Or should I get them all? This is from the Acer page.

Go back to the first NVidia driver that Acer installed as that worked perfectly when the laptop was released, which is the version 30.0.15.1718 that is really the NVidia version 517.18 as NVidia ID their drivers by the last 5 number to what Acer do on their support pages. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. Been awhile since I posted. I played around with the cord from my PSU as I realized there wasn't much slack in the cord due to length. Cut some holes in my desk and weirdly, that helped it for a bit, or maybe I imagined it to. It didn't crash for 10 straight days on any of my games.

Now suddenly out of nowhere, its crashing consistently again during my gaming on MSFS2020. However, its no longer crashing during regular use like browsing or Blender.

I think Im going to be honest with myself and take it back to Memory Express. I think I dont have the skills to really figure this out on my own haha.
