Last week there was a usual Microsoft end of month update and an Intel graphic update (details below) an my Acer Swift 3 SF314-59 and now auto screen dulling (it definitely looks more like dull than dim) it switched on.

I have found 2 options in the Windows settings that I switched off but it still seems to be doing it

What have I missed? Is there option in somewhere else, maybe in one of those pre-installed Acer apps that nobody ever uses and have uninstalled?

It sounds like the auto-brightness or content-adaptive brightness control feature might be enabled. Here's how you can try to disable it in Windows 11 Version 24H2:

Try to adjust the display setting. To access Display Settings, right-click on the desktop, select Display settings, and scroll down to the Brightness & color section.
Check the power settings, go to Settings > System > Power & battery, and ensure the option Lower screen brightness when using battery saver under the Battery saver section is turned off.
Adjust graphics settings, open Settings > System > Display > Graphics, and check for any adaptive brightness settings specific to your graphics card to disable them.
To disable the adaptive brightness, press Win + R, type control and hit Enter to open the Control Panel, navigate to Hardware and Sound > Power Options, click Change plan settings next to your selected power plan, select Change advanced power settings, expand Display, find Enable adaptive brightness, and set both On battery and Plugged in to Off.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

I will give it a look when I get home but "content-adaptive brightness control feature" would describe what I am seeing perfectly.

I also suggest to checking intel control panel then as updates can reset or enable features like "Display Power Saving Technology" or "Adaptive Brightness" in Intel's own graphics settings, separate from Windows settings.

Look for options like "Power," "Display Power Saving Technology," or "Adaptive Brightness," and turn them off if enabled
