Is there a reason the Acer spin 312 hinge design causes discomfort when used on my lap?

can anybody splain me why Acer designed the hinge on these devices such that the back edge of the lid forms a sharp edge, which digs into my legs when I use it as a "laptop"? my old Acer C302 and many other devices manage to use just the bottom panel. the setup doesnt change the angle of the keyboard enough to matter, and there are other ways to assure adequate airflow.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 312 is a budget laptop and its built that way, the LCD lid and hinge system in this laptop opens and turns underneath the laptop lower case as shown in the caption below and could expose some sharp edges of the hinge system if you use the laptop like you do, hence and why its "sharp edge, which digs into my legs" happens, use it a different way.
