Dear Acer Support Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to inquire about the USB Type-C (Thunderbolt 4) ports on the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 (PHN16-72) and Neo 18 (PHN18-71) laptops. Specifically, I would like to know whether these ports are connected to the integrated GPU (e.g., Intel/AMD) or the dedicated NVIDIA GPU for display output.

Could you please confirm the following for each model (PHN16-72 and PHN18-71):

  1. Is the USB Type-C/Thunderbolt 4 port directly connected to the dedicated NVIDIA GPU, the integrated GPU, or does it use NVIDIA Optimus for dynamic switching?
  2. If connected to the NVIDIA GPU, which specific NVIDIA GPU model (e.g., RTX 4060, RTX 4070) is associated with the port?
  3. Are there any specific settings (e.g., in NVIDIA Control Panel or PredatorSense) required to ensure the USB Type-C port uses the NVIDIA GPU for external display output?

This information is crucial for determining the performance of external displays connected via the USB Type-C port. Thank you in advance for your assistance, and I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

If you are using both the Intel cpu graphics and the NVidia graphics then the Thunderbolt 4 port will use the Intel graphics until the graphics resolution and fps get higher than the Intel integrated graphics can handle and then it switches to the NVidia gpu for higher graphics usage.

The best way to use the Thunderbolt 4 port is to set these laptops graphics in their bios for both PHN16-72 and PHN18-71 laptops to use only the NVidia gpu as then the Thunderbolt 4 port will only use the NVidia gpu. There is no specific settings in NVidia Control panel, leave everything at its default settings for best performance. That is what I've done with my PHN16-71 and its RTX4050 gpu and it works perfectly with using the Thunderbolt 4 port and the RTX4050 gpu. Good luck and hope this helps you out.
