Hi

I have an all Acer Aspire desktop PC, about 10 years old. I am having repeated issue with the keyboard typing completely wrong characters. This has happened two or three times and has corrected itself after restart/update, but now is stuck no matter what I have tried.

Done the following previously -

Disconnected/reconnected keyboard & removed/reinstalled driver.

Updated Windows fully or removed latest update to see if corrects.

Cleaned and cleared caches/ disk clean up.

System File Checker tool - Run DISM and sfc /scannow thru command prompt.

These have worked before to correct it. Would appear not to be keyboard at fault as it has corrected before.

I can use the Windows10 onscreen keyboard, and it works, but is time consuming.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Have a look at this extensive guide here of how to fix this problem, as if all this does not fix your problem, change the keyboard with a new one. Good luck and hope this helps you out to solve this problem.

Press "NumLock" or press "FN" + "NumLock" keys to make sure that it is disabled. Try typing again to see if your keys are fixed. If this doesn't fix your problem, you may have the wrong language selected. Switch between your installed keyboards.
Sometimes, the language or input method settings may change, leading to mismatched key inputs. You can fix this by checking the language and region settings in your operating system and ensuring they match your preferred layout. Also, make sure you haven't accidentally pressed the "Num Lock" or "Caps Lock" keys.

Which characters are being typed, and which actually show up? It might be a mismatch of the keyboard language settings or an issue with the keyboard itself. You don't tell us which model of all in one you have. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like xxxxx-xxx-xxxx. Also, what OS is installed?

    Hi

Thanks for the replies. I have tried all the suggestions already i.e language settings etc. I decided to open up the keyboard and give it a clean inside, but now it is not typing anything at all, so I will look at a new keyboard. Thanks.
