My Predator Orion 5000 PO5-625s randomly crashes and restarts itself (no matter what I'm doing)

Hey!

Not sure what's going on with this PC, but it's been happening for I'd say about a year now. I didn't really bother me that much, but now it's just getting annoying.

Randomly every now and then, it just decides to freeze and then restart itself a few seconds later. Sometimes it doesn't even freeze and my screen goes black whilst it restarts itself.

I've done quite a few tests such as a benchmark test (all seems find, but a couple of times my CPU was flagged up for not having enough power), I've checked the BIOS for the PSU wattage which is all spot on, my RAM is about a year old now, and the Windows tests say they're fine too.

Personally, I'm pointing fingers towards my GPU or my PSU, but I just wanted to find out if this is a problem anyone else has had before, and whether anything else needs to be replaced before I put my hand into my pocket to buy more hardware that doesn't fix the problem.

Thank you! :)

You can try a BIOS update from here: https://www.acer.com/us-en/support/drivers-and-manuals.

Type your serial number in. Scroll down to the BIOS section. Download the latest BIOS update by looking at the date. The latest BIOS update says that it enhances system stability so it may fix your issue.

Thank you. I'll take a look when I next get back on my PC.

Unless you haven't done any BIOS updates since new, it's not too likely to a BIOS issue. The last release they did was back in 2022. Of course, that update is marked as "Enhance system stability", so it might just fix it. :)

Thank you. Yeah I haven't done any BIOS updates and I've had the pc since the end of 2021. I see that the most recent update is from 2022 so it most likely is that. I checked the BIOS earlier and I'm 2 versions out of date. Just gotta work out how to complete the update without bricking my motherboard. 🤞

    Thank you both!

The PO5-625s bios is very easy to update, just follow the appendix folder windows guide for best results and you will not brick your bios. good luck.

And if you have really flaky power you might want to use a UPS so you don't have any chance of having the power cut off during the update. That's the only real risk.

Thank you both. I'm away from home now so I'll take a look at it when I get back.

If your Acer Predator Orion 5000 is randomly crashing and restarting, it could be due to several reasons. Here's a breakdown of potential causes and troubleshooting steps:

    1. Hardware Issues:
      RAM Problems:
The most common culprit for random crashes and restarts is faulty RAM. The [YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT4qWZSj7Qc&pp=0gcJCdgAo7VqN5tD] suggests that issues with RAM are a frequent cause with Acer machines. To check, try reseating your RAM sticks or replacing them with known good RAM.
      Hard Drive/SSD Issues:
A failing hard drive or SSD can also cause crashes. The [YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDQZvNQ2chc] suggests reseating the drive to ensure a secure connection.
      Power Supply Problems:
A faulty or underpowered PSU can lead to instability and crashes. If your computer seems to be struggling, you might need to replace the PSU.
      Overheating:
If your components are overheating, they could be shutting down to prevent damage. Ensure your cooling system is working properly (fans, thermal paste, etc.).
      Incorrectly Installed Components:
Make sure all components are properly installed and secured.
    2. Software Issues:
      Driver Problems:
Outdated or corrupted drivers, especially for graphics cards or network adapters, can cause crashes. Update your drivers to the latest versions.
      Corrupted System Files:
In some cases, corrupt system files can lead to instability. You can try using a System File Checker (SFC) scan to fix this (instructions can be found online).
      Operating System Issues:
The Windows operating system itself may have issues. A clean install of Windows might be necessary in some cases.
      Software Conflicts:
Some software applications or background processes may be interfering with the stability of your system. Try identifying and removing or updating these.
    3. Troubleshooting Steps:
      Check for Error Messages:
When the computer restarts, pay close attention to any error messages that appear on the screen. These messages can provide clues about the cause of the crash.
      Run Memory Diagnostic:
Windows has a built-in memory diagnostic tool. Run this tool to check for any RAM errors.
      Check Event Viewer:
The Event Viewer in Windows logs various system events, including errors and crashes. Review the logs for potential causes.
      Try a Clean Boot:
A clean boot will start Windows with minimal startup programs. This can help identify if a third-party application is causing the issue.
