🔧 Issue: Abnormal CPU Power Draw After Clean Windows 11 Install – PHN16-71

Device: Predator Helios Neo 16 (PHN16-71)
CPU/GPU: Intel i7-13700HX / RTX 4060
BIOS Version: 1.18
OS: Windows 11 24H2 (clean install via Media Creation Tool)

🧩 Problem:

After a clean install of Windows 11 24H2, the CPU starts drawing excessive power (~100W) during gaming — even in low-demand titles like Valorant. This abnormal power usage wasn’t present on the factory-installed Windows 11 or when upgrading from Windows 10.

What I’ve Tried:

  • Clean installs via both ISO and Media Creation Tool → same issue
  • Tested multiple games: God of War (2018), Valorant, NFS Unbound
  • Drivers installed automatically
  • High Performance power mode (same as before)
  • Monitoring with MSI Afterburner
  • No issue with fans, thermal paste, or temps under normal use

💡 Workaround:

If I install Windows 10 first, then upgrade to Windows 11, the CPU behaves normally with proper power scaling.

Request:

Can Acer look into this? It seems like power configurations or firmware behavior during a clean Windows 11 install aren’t being set correctly. Happy to share logs or help test further.

I always wait for upgrades by WAU, tailored to my systems by Microsoft, I never "Clean" install Windows with a generic ISO file that also reformat the boot drive and will remove all original settings, drivers and Acer's OOBE firmware.

Thanks for the insight, Puraw. I’ve confirmed that performing a clean installation of Windows 11 (via ISO) removes the OEM-specific tunings — this results in abnormal CPU power behavior, even after reinstalling all Acer-provided drivers manually.

Could you please guide me on how to fully restore Acer’s original power tuning/configuration? Is there a way to get the official factory image or reapply the OOBE-level firmware/setup that comes pre-configured?

You are welcome, the only way to get the Acer OOBE Oem folders and settings back AFAIK is by taking the laptop to Acer Services in your country and ask to reset the system to factory default for a small service fee.

But isn't it a big issue for everyone as the cpu overheats everytime without any power draw limit and it's damaging it. Shouldn't acer do something like a bios update or something
