PH517-51

upon shutdown i heard a posting sound from speakers which i never heard before i then rebooted and got blue screen. Upon reboot i checked device manager and found "unknown usb device ( device descriptor request failed) "

at the time of shut down and reboot there were no usb devices connected.

All three usb ports are functioning , however im unable to test the usb type c ports as i do not have usb-c devices nor have i ever used the usb-c ports.

things i've tried

uninstall problem device & re-install

run chkdsk /f /r

run HW trouble shooter

turned off fast start

turned off usb power off charging

ensured usb suspend disabled in advanced power options

blew dust out of machine

checked for loose cabling

checked & set bios to default

also attempted to reinstall bios but procedure failed because flash utility acknowledges the the bios is already up to date

c

i've looked for oem usb driver on Product Support - PH517-51 | Acer Australia and there are none listed

currently the device is disabled and in all other respects the machine is functioning normally

is it possible that the usb-c ports have failed on the main board ??

if anyone has any clue im all ears

Thanks

Tom

Hi, uninstall all Unknown and Other devices in Devices Manager, if you see any drivers with yellow exclamation triangles uninstall those too. Just reboot and Windows will install the correct drivers, or you will find them in Optional Updates Windows "Check for Updates".

    Thanks for reply

There are no other unknown devices or devices with exclamation marks only that one device.

I've uninstalled it numerous times and also tried to update the device driver. Windows says the latest drive is installed.

Well tested all 3 usb-a ports and the two usb-c ports and all are working??

Even with the unknown device disabled all USB ports function. ??

Was going to try bios downgrade then upgrade but fear bricking if bios install fails due to unknown hardware issue.

May just let sleeping dogs lye me thinks.

    Thoughts ??
