Hey guys,

I wanted to upgrade my RAM and storage. I have the a315-56 and have (4-4)8 GB of ram and 256 GB of storage. Is it possible to Upgrade to a (4-16) 20 gig or 12 (4-8)? and which is smarter/better!

For storage i can upgrade to 1TB quite cheaply, can the Aspire 3 take that upgrade?

Those are my questions :3

Hi, you can increase RAM to 20GB by adding a 16GB DDR4 module 2400MHz. The Acer Aspire 3 A315-56 has one PCIe Gen 3 x4 M.2 slot for NVMe SSDs. It supports SSDs with a maximum capacity of 2TB you can also add a 2.5" HDD/SSD up to 2TB. A good Gen3 NVMe SSD is the Samsung 970 Evo Plus. For a 2.5" Sata-3 SSD I recommend the 870 Evo V-NAND.

The Aspire A315-56 model has 4GB ram soldered onto the mainboard and the max upgradable ram is a 1x 16GB DDR4-2666MT/s if you can still buy these ram modules, if not, upgrade to the next speed up which is the DDR4-3200MT/s CL22 that is a none XMP/overclocked type ram.

With the M.2 SSD for the A315-56 laptop, this laptops M.2 SSD slot is a PCIe3 x4 lane type slot. The limit on storage in Win-10 and 11 is virtually unlimited as in the GUID (GPT) format mode that the A315-56 has its limit is 8 petabytes (1 petabyte = 1000TB) so your laptop can have whatever size M.2 SSD drive that you can afford, see this extensive benchmark here of gen 3 and 4 M.2 SSDs and chose the appropriate speed and capacity drive that you want. Buy only the Gen 3 x4 lane type drives as your laptop will never ever utilize the Gen 4 x4 lane M.2 SSD speed, as also the Gen 4 x4 drives will be allot more expensive. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.
