SF114-32 - Screen turns on but it shows blocked updates on 0%

Hello, I purchased the SF114-32 in 2019, and I’ve never had any issues with it until recently. A few months ago, when I powered on my PC, the usual ACER logo appeared, but then I saw a message that said: "Update installing 0%. Please ensure your PC is connected to power and turned on. The PC may restart several times." After that, it shuts down, restarts, and shows the same message again.

→ I left it running for over 5 hours, hoping the updates would finish, but nothing happened.

→ I unplugged it , pressed the power button for 30s , plugged it back in and it truned on but still the same way as before with the update message appearing.

→ I also tried to reset the battery by pressing the pinhole on the back side , still nothing :(

I’m really upset because all my personal data is on this PC, and I don’t want to lose it.☹️

Is there any way I can recover my data? And is there a way to fix the PC?

Thank you for your precious help 🙏

Do a hard rest by opening the back of the laptop and take the main battery out and disconnect the RTC/BIOS battery and short its +&_ pins at the mobo plug to reset CMOS, then take the ram out too, leave the laptop like that for 30 min and reconnect 1x ram module only and alternate if you have 2x ram modules, as this could also be because of faulty ram that your laptop is in a loop, as this will reset the laptop and your laptop should boot properly. If not then take your latop to a tech and get them to pinpoint the exact issues that your laptop has. Good luck.

Hello, thank you for your feedback.

But will this harm the data on the pc? Or it has nothing to do with it?

If your laptop screen shows "blocked updates" at 0% during a Windows update, try running the Windows Update troubleshooter, restarting the Windows Update service, and ensuring your internet connection is stable.

    1. Check Your Internet Connection:
Ensure you have a stable and reliable internet connection.
Try a different network connection to see if the issue persists.
    2. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter:
Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
Select "Windows Update" and click "Run the troubleshooter".
      Follow the on-screen instructions.
    3. Restart the Windows Update Service:
Press "Windows + R" to open the Run dialog box.
      Type "services.msc" and press Enter.
Find "Windows Update" in the list of services.
Right-click on it and choose "Restart".
If the service isn't running, right-click and click "Start".
    4. Free Up Disk Space:
The Windows update process can fail if your system has insufficient free space.
Ensure your C drive has at least 10GB of free space.
    5. Safe Mode Boot:
Restart your computer and press F8 (or Shift + Restart from the login screen) to enter the Advanced Boot Options.
Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
Choose Safe Mode from the list of options.
Once in Safe Mode, try running the update again.
    6. Advanced Startup Repair:
Open Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
Click "Advanced Startup" then hit "Restart now".
Once restarted, click Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair.

Hi, what Windows version is installed? Microsoft has removed official support for 8th Gen Intel CPUs in Windows 11 version 24H2, this might limit the functionality or stability of the Acer Swift SF114-32 with the update. Even though the laptop meets the basic requirements for older Windows 11 versions, it could encounter issues like blocked updates or compatibility errors with the new version. If that is the case boot with a Recovery drive or if you can boot to Safe Mode, uninstall Windows11 24H2 or if not possible clean install Windows11 version 23H2 with an ISO file on a USB installation flash drive.

    The operating system : Windows 10 64-bit

The issue is that I don't have acces to the bitlocker recovery key- do I need it for the boot?

The hard reset will not damage the hard drive or your data on it. Id=f that dosent work then do the below Bootrec repair:

Running Bootrec to repair Windows 10 Boot problem

Bootrec.exe is a standard free utility designed to troubleshoot boot problems in the Windows Recovery Environment. If the Windows 10 Startup Repair not working, you can try to fix Windows 10 with BootRec commands.

In the Command Prompt, type in the following commands one after the other:

▸ BOOTREC /FIXMBR (this command will fix any corruption issues with the master boot record)
▸ BOOTREC /FIXBOOT (this command will attempt to write a new boot sector on the hard disk if Windows detects damage.)
▸ BOOTREC /RebuildBcd (this command may be able to fix an error like “Boot Manager is Missing”, and can also restore boot entries for older versions of Windows if you have a dual boot configuration)

Note: You need press Enter after typing each command.

Seems like the Windows is trying to install the update but failed and stuck at 0%
You can take it to a computer shop and ask them to take the SSD out, backup all important data, and reinstall Windows.

Please remember to include @AnhEZ28 when you want to reply back to my comment so that I can check your response.
Thank you and have a nice day!
