Beside Samsung 9x0 Pro such as 980 Pro, 990 Pro, 9100 Pro (and 990 Evo Plus) and WD Black SN850X along with NVMe officially listed by Acer

Hello, I have a question. Is Lexar NVMe (such as Lexar NM790) are fully worked and fully supported on Acer Predator Helios Neo despite Acer Predator Helios Neo has Intel RST driver installed (i mean for second slot)?

The Lexar Gen4 SSD will work equally well in the second slot, a bit faster than the Samsung 990 Evo Plus SSD (see link) but the Samsung is Gen5 x4 to future-proof your storage for potential use in other devices Lexar NM790 2TB vs Samsung 990 Evo 2TB: What is the difference?

Regarding the Intel RST, the SSD will still work normally.

I don't think that there is a Lexar MN979 but there is a Lexar 790. Have a look at this Tom's Hardware SSD Benchmarks Hierarchy 2025 for M.2 SSD drives of the fastest Gen 3 or 4 or 5 drives and the Lexar MN790 is not there but the newer Gen 4 x4 Lexar Professional NM800 Pro is there and its been tested and its Seq MB/s is 6,864 and its Copy MB/s 1,702 as tested by Tom's Hardware while the Samsung 990 Pro Seq MB/s 6,985 and Copy MB/s 1,842. All the drives are there, so look their performance in the list made. Hope this helps you out

@AnhEZ28 Not all NVMe works for my Predator Helios Neo 16 PHN16-72 because my second slot, the Teamgroup T-Force G50 (replacement for my broken NVMe which is T-Force G50) often undetected even caused Disk Management broken but Teamgroup T-Force G50 works normally if connects from NVMe enclosure. According to Acer's laptop technician, he said to me that 3 NVMe brand known for problems and one of 3 NVMe are Teamgroup. He also said that Samsung and WD are recommended NVMe for Predator Helios Neo 16.

I've been using Samsung M.2 SSDs like the 970 EVO Plus Gen 3x4 on my previous Nitro 5 laptop for years and I've just got a PHN16-71 laptop since December 2024 and I upgraded the boot and the slave M.2 slots drives with the Gen 4 x4 Samsung 990 Pro NVMe + Heatsink and they are working faultlessly and perfectly, not one problem with them. I also use the WD SN 770 Black and the WD SN850X Black Gen 4 x4 drives and they are the same.

You can also try to disable the Intel RST in the BIOS by going to the main tab, press CTRL+S, and disable the VMD controller.

@AnhEZ28  Disable Intel VMD Controller causes Windows 11 unbootable and BSOD. According to Acer Technician in Indonesia said that Intel RST seems to be very important and useful feature presumably for NVMe on Laptop. I've tried many time to disable Intel RST but disabling causes major problem as i said, BSOD.

Let it show BSOD a few times and it will go to the automatic repair screen. Navigate to advanced options, troubleshoot, advanced options, change startup settings, and choose restart. After the startup settings screen shows up, press 4 to go into the safe mode. Log into the account and restart the laptop. This time it will go into the normal windows.

@AnhEZ28  Acer's Laptop Technician in Indonesia never recommended to turn off Intel RST. Intel RST is feature and driver that already installed. Presumably, Intel RST's feature are seems to be very beneficial but causes some NVMe or outside Intel RST-supported NVMe on second slot often undetectable and rarely detected even causes Disk Management not responding.

It is only beneficial when you want to do the RAID setup (combining two or more drives to save data or increasing the R/W speed). You can try turning it off to test the reliability. If anything does not go right, you can turn it back on again later.

@AnhEZ28  Currently, i'm still looking for Intel RST-NVMe for Second Slot which is D: not C: (because c: is still good enough 99%). Maybe i'm looking for another NVMe beside of Acer's list like Lexar NM790, Samsung 990 Evo Plus or Pro or WD Black 850X or other NVMe.
