edited May 30 in Swift and Spin Series

Suddenly the Touchpad has stopped working. I tried to enable it by pressing "F10" but nothing happened.

So tried to enable it via Settings > Devices but there is no "Touchpad" Option

The Device Manager also doesn't have "HID compliant Touchpad" option neither does "Mice & other pointing devices" has a Touchpad Option to run "Update Driver"

So in acer support driver download page I gave my Serial Number and downloaded Serial IO Driver first as per its instruction. Then installed "Setup_Driver(windows command script)" by running the as an administrator. After that I installed both the "PixArt Touchpad dirvers" (ran windows command script) then updated "Windows Update" but no use after restarting PC. So I tried the same with "Touchpad Synaptics Driver". Still no use.

So i "Reset" the PC without wiping my personal files, ran windows update and restarted. No use. So did a clean wipe Reset then ran Windows Upate but still no use after restarting.

This is a new PC which was working fine till 2 days back. Touch screen & Mouse works fine but Touchpad is not working.

Plsss HELP. this is driving me crazy

You can also check the AcerSense app for touchpad settings. To enable the touchpad, look for a function key labeled with a touchpad icon or "TP" and press it while holding the "Fn" key.

Another steps is to Go to BIOS, double-check Bios MAIN tab for function key behavior option. Then change it from "media key" to "function key" behavior. Then press F10 to save settings and exit the BIOS menu. Then try FN+TP key or TP key only again to turn touchpad on. If still no joy, shut down Windows normally. Turn it back on and try turning it on again with touchpad Key.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

Hi in the BIOS I changed the "Media Key" to "Function Key" saved it and restarted twice but no use. I also tried the acer sense app but it doesn't have any option for Touchpad. i have uploaded my screenshots of device manager, Settings >Bluetooth & Devices page & acer sense app page. Pls let me know if you cld find any thing.

Between I also ran "Windows Update" and install the suggested updates. Restarted it many times and tried Fn+TP key, Swiping the SWIFT logo on the Touchpad but nothing worked.

Should I change the Function Key to Media Key again in the BIOS?

It's weird. You may keep it as the Function Key in BIOS. Did you check by tapping the key with touchpad icon after changing in BIOS?

    Ensure the touchpad is enabled:
Open the Settings menu (Windows key + I). Go to Bluetooth & Devices > Touchpad. Make sure the touchpad is toggled "On

Disconnect if you have connected any external mouse. If the Multi-control Touchpad is locked, press the F10 button (or turn on the media control through AcerSense) to unlock it, then the "SWIFT" logo light will turn on which indicating it is ready to use.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

Which touchpad is installed in your machine? They used two different ones and they use different drivers. If your touchpad isn't showing up in Device Manager try turning on the show hidden devices option and look at the properties of it there. That should tell you which you have.

If your cursor will not move or your touchpad is not working at all:-

    1. Remove connected devices - Remove all devices that are connected to the system except for the power cord. This includes external keyboard, mouse, flash drives, hard drives and other peripherals.
    2. Enable/disable your touchpad - Many systems allow you to turn the touchpad On or Off by pressing a key combination. On most models it is FN + F7 or FN + F2, but could also be a different function key. The touchpad function key will be labeled with one of the images below. disable touchpad icons.png
    3. Restart your computer - Restarting your system may help your touchpad start responding again.
    4. Reset BIOS or UEFI to default settings - Some systems have touchpad settings in the BIOS/UEFI.
    5. Reinstall touchpad drivers - Missing or incorrect drivers may cause your touchpad to not work properly. You can try downloading and installing the latest driver from our Acer Drivers and Manuals page. You may need to attach an external mouse to complete this process.
    6. Restore Windows- Newer versions of Windows allow you to restore your operating system without losing your personal data. Make sure you select the option to Keep my files.

If you can move your cursor but are having problems with cursor speed, erratic behavior or tapping and clicking:

    1. Adjust touchpad sensitivity - If your cursor is moving too fast or too slow, you can try changing your touchpad sensitivity.
    2. Disable tap to click - Accidentally making contact with the touchpad when typing can cause the cursor to jump around or leave the window.

in my 2post which i repiled I have uploaded 3 images. The 1st one is of the "Device Manager" screenshot, 2nd one "Settings> Blue tooth & Devices" screenshot and the 3rd is "acer sense" screenshot.

The "Touchpad Option" is not displayed in none of them. In Device Manager I have turned on "View>Show Hidden Devices" option also. If I remove the external mouse "Mice & Other Pointing Devices" also gets invisible.

Since there is no option with the word touchpad👇️ there is no way to see what Touchpad Driver is installed.

I can't toggle it "On" because i don't have a "Touchpad" option when i goto

Settings menu (Windows key + I). Go to Bluetooth & Devices > Touchpad

See screenshot below👇️These are the only options available "Touch" option is for "Touch screen" and not "Touchpad"(missing)

    Screenshot 2025-03-20 230324.png

How to turn on the media control through AcerSense? Screenshot below👇️ I can't find any option for media or Touchpad.

    Screenshot 2025-03-20 230609.png

In my laptop F10 is the toggle key for enabling/disabling the touchpad. When I press it once it shows the image below 👇️

    disable-touchpad-icons2.jpg

Again when i press the F10 key the the above icon changes to enabled icon (without the top-right to bottom-right cross line ) but no light or nothing happens in the Touchpad. I tried swiping on the "SWIFT" logo on the Touchpad but still there is no response.

thanks for your help so far. pls do let me know if you have any other suggestions

This is the screenshot of my "Device Manager" after enabling "View Tab > Show hidden devices". The Touchpad option doesn't show up in the "HID Compliant Devices" nor in the "Mice & Other Pointing Devices" option. If i remove my external mouse the "Mice & Other Pointing Devices" also goes off/vanishes

    Screenshot 2025-03-20 225841.png

So i tried installing Touchpad Synaptics driver after installing the Serial I/O Driver (bcos the acer driver support page said so) by running the "Setup_Driver" (windows command script) as an administrator. Restarted it. No use. So I also ran "Windows Update", restarted but still didn't work.

So i also tried the same with the "Touchpad PixArt" Drivers(2 of them). Restarted → no use. So ran "Windows Update", restarted, pressed F10 toggle key, swiped on th SWIFT logo on the Touchpad but nothing worked. The Touchpad doesn't turn on the light

The Touchpad Option or word is not present in none of the below

    1BIOS

    2 Device Manager

3 Settings>Bluetooth & Devices (with View Tab> Show hidden devices. Pls see screenshots above)

    4 Acer Sense

    5. F10 simply shows the enabled/disabled icon on the screen but no light or nothing happens even when I swipe on the SWIFT logo.

I have RESET my PC thrice. Twice keeping my personal files intact, then running "Windows Update" & restarting it a few times but i didn't work. So I again did a Complete RESET wiping out the all the files including personal files, running "Windows Update" & restarting a few times but that too didn't work

Thanks for the details. If none of the above steps work, it might be best to contact Acer support & Service or a professional technician.

If you have graphical BIOS, check if touchpad works there - but to let you know guys - Fn+F7 or Fn+F10 or F10 or whatever you have on your laptop - this function is also superior to BIOS itself ! Simply - you can enable/disable touchpad (by keyboard combination) even in the BIOS

Go to Settings- Accessibility- Mouse pointer and touch-Touchpad; check if it's toggled on, if not turn it on. Click the down arrow next to ON and make sure the "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected" is ticked, there is an option available to reset your touchpad, Reset it and it should work. Also, there seems to be a known issue with the Pixart driver, so go and check the log in the Event Viewer if there's any error message related to Pxitpservice or Pixart driver. If there is any, go to services.msc, find the Pxitpservice and disable it. btw pixart is responsible for the multimedia functions in your touchpad, disabling it will also disable the multimedia function but the touchpad will function normally.

I see a lot of touchpad issues on this forum. What should Acer do is to create some bootable low level utility to verify (independently to any os or drivers) touchpad functionality (on BIOS level). That will help a lot of people to verify if they have hw failure, or driver-telated issue

Most of the touchpad "issues" we see reported here are because the user has accidentally disabled it with the Fkey or Fkey_Fn combo. The easiest way to verify the hardware is working is to boot into the BIOS and use it there. If the touchpad works in the BIOS, and not under Windows, it's a software issue. If the touchpad doesn't work in the BIOS it's much more likely to be hardware.

Billsey - but I found that I can also disable touchpad in BIOS by using keyboard combo! It has higher priority than BIOS itself ! And that can be confusing for people during diagnostics...many of then doesnt know proper keyboard combo fot TP....which is strange, right? :-)
