Nitro 5 AN517-54-74A0 Screen Replacement

In January, I had a display failure, completely out of the blue. The image froze, and slowly started to fade from the edges inward. Having been left high and dry by Acer customer support*, I’m now in the unenviable position of having to replace my Nitro 5’s screen less than 3 years after purchase.

I believe I’ve found the replacement part (NE173QHM-NY6) but I can’t find any guides on the procedure. Does anyone have a resource that explains how to carry out this repair? I don’t want to break anything else.

*My laptop was purchased with a 3-year Acer “Care Plus” policy. I know I activated this because I have credentials for the Care Plus site saved in my browser. However, I can’t log in. I called Acer technical support and, putting the terrible line quality aside, it was one of the most dismissive customer service experiences I have ever had. The agent insisted I hadn’t registered my Care Plus warranty (despite not taking any details from me) and then assured me I would receive a call back within 24 hours. That was over a month ago.

Pretty disappointing for a £1300 laptop with a £70 extended warranty.

These are all the 17.3" screens listed in the AN517-54 Acer service guide. Install HWiNFO64 as this software's monitor section tell you the exact monitor model number that your laptop has or see the screen part number if you took the screen out, as it should be written there.

Search for the screens numbers below at Laptop Screens as they have a great range of these screens for good prices. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

    Hi Steven,

Thanks for this information and sorry to resurrect a dead post. A broken laptop screen brings with it some difficulties accessing forums.

The model number on the panel is NE173QHM-NY6 V8.0 - not listed above. Will any panel with the same resolution and refresh rate (and a “close enough” part number match) work? Is there somewhere I can get a copy of this service guide?
