Microsoft update for Avowed on Predator POX-950, Is BIOS 1.05 available for update?

Hi, I just got a warning from Avowed stating my BIOS is out of date despite the fact that I upgraded to the 1.03 version late last year per my product support page's guidance.

Looking closer I have found the Mar 4th 2025 article announcing Acer's two year warranty on 13th and 14th gen processors located here: https://community.acer.com/en/kb/articles/17446-two-year-extended-warranty-on-13th-and-14th-generation-intel-core-desktop-cpus

In that article, the POX-950 shows there is a 1.05 BIOS version released and available, however the download only provides the 1.03 version.

My questions are:

Is someone going to fix the problem with the warranty website that has the wrong BIOS info on it?
Is a 1.05 version actually available or is it forthcoming? Will it fix my microcode issue in the BIOS?

I need to upgrade from the microcode 0x127 version to the 0x12B before I can continue to play Avowed.

That is a miss print of the bios version as its NOT 1.05 it should be version 1,03 bios as the 1.03 .exe file says it in the bios folder. This is a mistake in the listing, so only download a bios file that Acer has for your Predator POX-950 desktop on the support page. Good luck.

Thanks for the response. It leaves my 2 questions unanswered however. The most important of which is - are we expecting a BIOS update for the POX-950 that addresses the microcode issue? The other, less important question is - will the website be fixed and hopefully an ETA posted for the microcode update?

If you want to update the CPU microcode yourself and not rely on Acer bios microcode updates, BUT REMEMBER THAT I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU BRICK YOUR CPU as there is a very comprehensive guide and solution posts of "How To Update Your Microcode for Intel HX 13/14th Gen. CPUs Laptops/Mobile Easily" at TechPoerUp forum site, so its your choice. Read this guide and all its replied posts, as the initial solution to fully upgrade the CPU microcode by THEBOSS619 properly, is that you FIRST need to turn off the Intel virtualization and VT-D in the BIOS, before attempting to do the CPU microcode update, as that solves the install problem issues in this post. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

So what you're saying is that Acer has incorrect information on their website, there are no plans to provide a fully supported microcode solution and users are on their own for finding homebrewed solutions? That's pretty grim. I appreciate that you're trying to provide some form of help but the caveats make this mostly unusable. Within the last 12 months I spent close to $5k on a computer and we're not getting a solution that is supported?

Pretty shocking. Anyone from Acer corporate reading these threads that can answer this?

Acer have provided a cpu microcode solution in the Predator POX-950 desktop in bios 1.02 in 2024, this was after Intel released the microcode fix for the 13th-14th Gen cpu's problems, so your desktops cpu should be performing properly and Acer will not update any more microcode's if its not required, plus you have a 1 year extended warranty on the cpu also as per the Acer article.

I just included that article if you want to upgrade your 13th Gen cpu's microcode with the last Intel versions released, if you are still having problems, which you should not. Read the article and make your own mind up.

So I called Acer and had a tech support specialist return my call.

Turns out there IS a 1.05 BIOS update for the POX-950, however it's only been internally approved. It needs to go through the final approval process, then will be pushed to customers through the regular channels.

So, Steven, while you sent a very confident response, it turns out it was incorrect. The proper microcode has NOT been fixed for the POX-950 and owners will need to upgrade to the 1.05 BIOS patch as soon as it becomes available. I'm concerned about the misinformation as, had I not pursued a call to Acer tech support, I might have either let the microcode issue drop, leaving my rig open to degradation, or gone it alone with the intel solution that wasn't officially supported by Acer. I think we need to be cautious in guiding users without knowing all the details.

For other owners of the POX-950, I will post one last update here when tech support notifies me the BIOS 1.05 update is available.

As I said in my post above and its NOT incorrect or a misguiding post, as the TechPowerUp cpu microcode update guide is for the released Intel 13th & 14Th cpu overheating and instability issues FIX which is Intel cpu microcode version 0x12B which the Acer bios version 1.05 for your POX-950 desktop will also be, as Acer doesn't have another magic fix for the Intel problems. And at the time, that is all the information that I had and gave you an alternative suggestion to update a proven cpu microcode method from a renowned and responsible site and its not in any way misguiding and/or meant to be misguiding as its a proven cpu microcode update that works for laptops and desktop cpu's.

If you read my post, I did quote the following warning "BUT REMEMBER THAT I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU BRICK YOUR CPU" and that meant that you do the cpu microcode update if you know what you are doing and do that cpu microcode update at your own risk! So it was entirely up to you as a last alternative, as doing the cpu microcode is for experienced users ONLY that know what they are doing and if you read the TechPowerUp article, which is a reputable site , they would NOT publish this post of a "cpu microcode update" if it didn't work and bricked your PC.

That is why I gave you that cpu microcode update link and if Acer were responsible in advising on that extensive page of bios updates, which btw I also have a PHN16-71 laptop with a 13th Gen i5-13500HX cpu that is affected by the Intel problems, then they would not link a none existent bios 1.05 version to an existing 1.03 bios for users to be misguided and think that Acer made a mistake, like I've pointed out to you! As NO one knew that this Acer new bios version 1.05 for your POX-950 desktop is an Acer test cpu microcode fix for the Intel cpu issues on your POX-950 desktops .

Anyway, its great that you have done your research and advised Acer community on this issue with the POX-950 desktop cpu microcode Intel cpu problems fix, and that you had direct contact with Acer tech support, as we can only advise on whatever information is available, as the cpu microcode update guide at TechPowerUp forum that I gave you, was a proven microcode update from an old and responsible site that I trust for advise just like BIOS MODS site also, so I do have bios programing experience. Thanks again and good luck and lets see when Acer releases the POX-950 desktops version 1.05 bios or if they ever do?

Thanks - the 1.05 BIOS update has been posted in the POX-950 product support page effective Mar 18th. The 2 year warranty notification page as of Mar 4 still has the typo showing 1.05 but linking to 1.03.
