UPGRADE MEMORY RAM PREDATOR PHN16-71

Hey, greetings to all! I'm a user of the Predator Helios NEO 16, I'm located in Venezuela and I'm writing here to clear a few doubts.

I have a couple of questions with my laptop. After almost 1 year for work issues I have decided to increase to 32GB, it comes from factory with 16gb so it would be an increase of 16GB more.

I made the purchase of the Crucial 16GB DDR5-4800 SODIMM - CT16G48C40S5. Once I installed them immediately began to present problems, it would freeze out of nowhere after a few minutes or even an hour. I performed stress tests to the memory and it supported them, but magically it would pass a while and then everything would freeze. I decided to go back to stock memory and everything worked great. I was reading that some memories have XMP I think in this case mine do and that is why they are incompatible.... I was 1 WHOLE DAY, updating, checking security updates, reading, installing and uninstalling an endless number of them thinking it was software and in the end it ended up being hardware, my younger sister has the same laptop as me and I used it to test them, the problem was the same, within minutes of installing them and turning them on to test, everything failed just like mine. So I took it for granted that I threw almost $100 in the trash.

The million dollar questions would be the following:

How do I know which memory to buy that doesn't have XMP?
Only Samsung brand come without XMP?

I was checking the SAMSUNG memory, because they are the brand that comes installed and I saw that the model that applies would be this: M425R2GA3BB0-CQK - 16GB DDR5 4800MHz PC5-38400 1RX8 SODIMM.

This memory could work for me? of course, I need 2 modules for the 32gb I need.

I also found the 32GB model in SAMSUNG brand, which would be this one: Samsung 32GB PC5-38400 DDR5 4800 MHz SODIMM Laptop Memory RAM M425R4GA3BB0-CQK

Would a single 32GB SLOT work or do I need to buy 2 of 16GB?

I have a lot of headache with this issue, it has been tragic for me because adding the cost of the memory, I also have to pay the shipping to my country, plus the waiting time, it has been chaotic for me. I need HELP with this please!

I am infinitely grateful for any support or help!

Regards

See the Crucial guide for the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 PHN16-71-73RR RAM & SSD Upgrades don't worry that this is for a Predator Helios Neo PHN16-71-73RR model as it will work for your laptop. Also be aware that if you have a PHB+N16-71-xxxx with the i9-13900HX cpu then that laptop uses the max DDR5-5600MT/s CL46 type ram ONLY, the i5-13500HX and the i7-700HX cpu's all use the DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 type ram ONLY as the ram speed is determined by the cpu memory capacity and speed limits.

The Crucial 16GB DDR5-4800 SODIMM - CT16G48C40S5 that you bough for your PHN16-71-xxxx laptop should work as its a DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 type ram, also these laptops DO NOT work with XMP overclocked ram also and the Crucial ram is NOT an XMP ram, you need the below exact 32GB kit Crucial ram for the laptop to work 100% and properly without freezing or lagging, so try the kit below DO NOT buy individual 16GB DDR5-4800MT?s type ram as that might also be a problem and see if that works or it could be that one of the modules is faulty, so try running the laptop with 1x 16GB or even try changing the ram to 1x32Gb DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 ram module, as it will work and test if the laptop is still freezing or lagging. If doing all this doesn't help, which will be very unusual, then use the Kingston or Corsair or other DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 type ram and see if they work.

    DDR5-4800 • CL=40 • Non-ECC • SODIMM • 262-pins • 1.1V • 1Rx8 based • PC5-38400

Btw, I'm speaking from personal experience as I’m using the same laptop with the 64GB 2x 32GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 Crucial kit ram below and my PHN16-71-50JG i5-13500HXX/RTX4050 and upgraded 1TB Samsung 990 Pro NVMe + Heatsink M.2 SSD works perfectly and 100% without any freezes, lags or anything.

Make sure that you install the modules properly as the new 32Gb kit might not allow the laptop to boot properly first, also be patient and if after about 203 min the laptops doesn’t boot press the "TURBO" key on the top left panel as that should speed the laptop boot and the new 32GB ram should boot and register and your PHN16-71 should work 100%. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Hi, this 2x16GB DDR5-5600MT/s Crucial kit will work: Crucial 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR5-5600 SODIMM | CT2K16G56C46S5 | Crucial.com or this RAM module from Kingston: Memory for a Acer - Predator Helios Neo (PHN16-71-xxx) - Kingston Technology Both SODIMMs are Standard JEDEC not with XMP profile, first update BIOS to version 1.18 dated 2024/09/20

    Hey buddy thanks for replying!

For a moment, I forgot to attach the CPU-Z screenshot.

My stock memory comes with 4800Mhz and my processor is the 13700HX.

I think this might help in finding an accurate memory? I purchased the Crucial 4800 MHZ based on stock memory, however they did not perform as I expected.

See my post above as all PHN16-71-xxxx come oem with the Samsung ram, I've got 2x DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 Samsung ram modules as paper weights at home and trying to sell them after my 64GB upgrade😁read my post above and try to use if 1x 16GB works properly or change and buy 1x 32GB module of either Crucial ram or another ram and see if the laptop works perfectly, as my PHN16-71-50JG with the i5-13500HX and its 2x 32GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 ram modules work perfectly without any freezing and/or lagging. Otherwise your laptop has a fault in the ram slot, which either its pins are not full making contact with the mobo pins or its lose and moving, hence causing the ram to freeze, or the mainboard is faulty which is a very rare fault. Good luck.

I am at this very moment testing one of the 16GB modules, I will test one at a time, independently on each module.

I just tested 1 of the two memory in SLOT 3 and it failed to power up and failed 5m after starting windows.

I am now testing that same memory from SLOT 3 in SLOT 1 and will see how it works.

Now regarding slots 1 and 3, if there is some error in the slots why are the stock SAMSUNG's working? There is no SLOT problem in my opinion.

Test of the second memory in SLOT 3, still failed, turned on, lasted 5 minutes and froze.

What a weird situation, 2 bad RAM memories? too much chance? too much bad luck?

Test of the second memory in SLOT 1, also failed, I do not understand, my head will explode, it does not make sense that the 8GB modules if they work and the 16GB module that corresponds to the laptop does not work, it just freezes.

I have the correct bios version, is there a newer version, maybe it is a software issue?

Also worth noting in principle, I did stress tests to the memory, for rare moments I managed to turn on for more than 1hr and in that hour I tested the two 16gb memory, using the total of 32gb and giving a test of 1 hour of demand with the use of 80% worked perfect, then after that, it just froze, not instantly, after 30-40 minutes.

The program with which I did the test is called OCCT
