It was plugged in to a power cord and our home lost power several times in a short amount of time due to the weather. Now it will not turn on. When I push the power button, the light that usually flashes blue, now flashes orange and nothing comes on.

I have read through the forums, I tried a reset and still nothing. Is there anything else I can try?

A flashing orange light on your laptop power button usually indicates a battery issue, most likely meaning your battery is low, and the laptop is unable to power on properly due to insufficient charge. Verify power is currently being supplied to the laptop. If your laptop still won’t turn on and you see a black screen, try unplugging the cable and plug it into a different outlet to rule out a non-working socket.

It doesn't appear to be working at all. I have moved the charge cord to a couple different outlets and it is still not turning on. Would a new battery work or a new cord? Everything was working fine before this. I am past the warranty, so I'm not sure what my next options are.

If you have a multimeter, test the voltage output from the charger to confirm if it is producing power. If you're unsure about the issue, a professional at a repair center can diagnose the problem and tell you if it's the charger or the laptop that needs fixing.

It will probably have to go in for repair. Thank you so much for the help!

Check the power source. If you don't use any protection, you may need to replace the power cord or the power supply unit (PSU) of your computer, as they may have been fried by the voltage spike. You can test the power cord by plugging it into another device, and the PSU by using a multimeter or a PSU tester.

Thanks for all the help with this! I am definitely going to have to take it somewhere to get looked at. I am a computer user, not a fixer. 😊

It would help to know just which Switch 5 model you have, since they have different batteries and different chargers. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like SW5xx-xxx-xxxx. On many the LED is a charge indicator, so off when the charger is not connected, amber when the charger is connected and charging and blue when fully charged with the charger connected. Flashing amber means a battery fault…

It looks to be the SW512-52-55YD

When I try to turn it on, it flashes amber about 5 times and then nothing happens. I'm hoping to get it looked at this week. If it is the battery, can that just be replaced?
