Two months ago, I bought a new desktop pc and printer to replace the previous setup that had served me well for 9 years. I decided to stick with a similar Acer Aspire + HP printer setup. I have had a number of problems with the pc and have wasted hours in fixing them.
The first problem was getting the pc to operate the printer/scanner via WiFi. Although it recognized the printer on the network, trying to print or scan was a very hit and miss affair. A long support call with HP established that there was nothing wrong with the printer. To cut a long story short, I managed to fix it by re-installing Windows 11, but the repair version. This led me to conclude that the problem lay with Windows 11. I am not a tech expert, just a competent user, so I have no more detailed understanding of the problem.
The second problem was that the bluetooth keyboard supplied with the pc had a huge latency and frequently entered multiple characters from a single, sharp press of a key. I found it unusable. The 9 year old keyboard and mouse supplied with my old computer works perfectly. I was grateful for the suggestions when I posted the problem, but nothing worked, so I gave up on it and have continued to use the old devices.
The latest problem, a few days ago, was with my Talk Talk router. My old router developed a fault, resulting in a visit by an engineer, who supplied and set up a new router. Obviously, I wanted to change the passwords for the router and the WiFi network. Using the pc, via Chrome, I was able to change the router password with no difficulty, but not the WiFi password or network name. Each time I tried the simple process of entering new details and pressing SAVE, the router became disabled and would not respond to any attempt to enable it. I had to perform a factory reset each time I tried this. Much time wasted on live chats with Talk Talk so called experts provided no solution to this. In the end, it occurred to me that this was a similar problem to the one I had with the printer, so I went on my macbook and was then able to affect the changes with no difficulty at the first attempt.
I am interested to know if anyone has had similar problems and has any firm ideas about the causes.
