Hello all. I have been using H277HU since 2017, and I started to use Macbook more often and looking to connect via USB-C. However, it does not work, and looks like I need to update the driver (firmware). Can someone guide me on how to update display firmware as I am not able to find any guidance about this?

Thank you.

Your Acer H277HU monitor is not coming up in the Acer service guide list or the Acer support site, only the H277HK is coming up in the SGs but not Acer support as its got no drivers.

For a 2017 monitor your monitor does not have a USB-C port and/or there is no chance that Acer will have firmware updates, so don't wait for one as this monitor is obsolete and its drivers have been stopped.

The below specs are the Acer H277HK Monitor which has Mini DP. DP, and a DVI port, connect your monitor with the monitor DP port to the laptops mini DP port as this connection is the best and its got a higher frequency than the HDMI port, so get an appropriate DP to a mini DP plug/cable and connect your H277HU monitor like that to your latop. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Well, I am using it with Lenovo laptop via USB-C … and you say I do not have USB-C?

Your Acer H277HU monitor doesn't have USB-C port to connect to, how can you connect and/or use the Acer H277HU monitor if it has no USB-C? That is what I meant as that is your question above and I've given you all the Acer specs on this monitor model and it has NO USB-C.

I am here not to prove that I have USB type C, but in case you want to verify: https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/0bfe7ab

Are you sure your Macbook supports video over the USB-C port? That usually wasn't the case for earlier USB-C designs, so it could easily be one that doesn't support it if it's older…

My MacBook is M2 Max (supports 3-4 4K monitors), with 3 USB-C ports and one HDMI. I am sure that HDMI is working fine, but I prefer reducing the number of wires and utilizing charging via USB-C. Also, as I mentioned before, the monitor works fine via USB-C (Charging & Data) with Lenovo Windows 10 laptop.

The specs of the connectivity of the Acer H277HU monitor of USB 3.1 (type C) port does not support display IN or OUT, the only UISB-C port that supports display IN or OUT is the Thunderbolt 3 or 4 ports (see Best Thunderbolt Monitors) as your Acer H277HU monitor does NOT have TBT3 or 4 ports! Read up on USB-C explained also and what heir functions are. Hope this explains all to you.

This is a useless forum. In case someone has a similar issue, I have fixed my problem by following instructions from https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/mbp-2017-usb-c-possible-issue-with-acer-h277hu.2055239/ to update the firmware. The monitor works perfectly fine now with my Macbook M2.

    Cheers

We are NOT an Apple MacBook forum, we are an Acer forum, seeing that you didn't even put down what Macbook model you had, we advised you on the Acer H277HU monitor ONLY that you have. Don't be rude and burn your bridges with abuse, as imo we must have wasted time helping you out. Good luck and hope your attitude changes.

Clearly, this is an Acer forum, and I feel my time was wasted here. I shared a link to the actual solution for anyone experiencing a similar issue only. Instead of providing real help, you focused on finding my mistakes, such as pointing out the absence of a USB-C port on H277HU, not supporting Thunderbolt, and finally, my failure to provide a MacBook model, lol.

Yes, because you have no idea of the difference between a Thunderbolt port and a USB-C 3.1 port that your monitor has and you continually INSISTED that your monitor can be connected to your MacBooks USB-C 3.1 port WHICH IT CANT BE! Its very apparent that you are very stubborn and don't want to learn and you are set in your ways, as even with your MacBook model your derogatory "LOL" proves even more your arrogance.

Proven above, that you are seems not mature enough to teach anyone or provide lessons. Initially you said that my monitor cannot be connected via USB-C, and even do not have one! Now, following your startegy (the fault is always mine, right?), I am not able distinguish between Thinderbolt and USB-C. You have no idea what I know and what not. I thought it is proffessional and technically supportive forum, but in fact it is not. Lol again, and waiting for your turn.

Thunderbolt or USB-C doesn't really mean anything on the monitor side of things. My assumption was you were using either a USB-C to HDMI cable or a USB-C to DP cable, not connecting USB-C to USB-C…
