My PC came with McAfee trial pre-installed. I didn't want it so uninstalled from add/remove programs.

On a few occasions I've had a few tabs open in the browser and on the Freecycle tab when I click on it there's a warning from McAfee there's a virus.

I just closed the tab, but on the McAfee website it states you may have to activate it before removal, I can't activate it as it's been removed.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Hi, to completely remove these virus checkers and 3rd party browsers or other preinstalled programs you need to download the program's uninstaller from the vendors' website, sometimes these sites want you to register but there are portals where you can directly download the uninstallers. Do not use CCleaner or uninstallers other than DDU (Wagnardsoft) as those exacerbate the problem by inserting hidden keys/code in Windows' registry that can monitor, trigger bloatware downloads and will use your resources and clog the network with unwanted telemetry (24/7 Cloud traffic). Some Acer programs will reinstall at some point even after uninstalling so all you can do is disable these services in Windows Services and keep checking the service is not enabled or just ignore the program and avoid using it.

There isn't a "Freecycle" tab in Windows 11. However, if you're referring to a feature or tool related to recycling or reusing resources, it might be a third-party application or service that you've installed?

The fake McAfee alerts stem from notification permissions granted to malicious domains, compounded by incomplete software removal.

First reset and clear all data of your browsers then Use Official McAfee Removal Tool (MCPR):

    • Download the McAfee Consumer Product Removal (MCPR) tool from McAfee's support site.
    • Run the tool in Safe Mode to bypass potential conflicts with active processes and remove this software completely.
