I’ve made a usb stick with the new bios R02-A2 on it, but don’t know how to get it launched as I can’t get into Windows 11, just recovery screen.

Also is there a way to ask further questions from an initial answer - got a lot of good advise from StevenGen yesterday and asked questions in comments section, but no answers given.

  • Enable the F12 boot menu in the BIOS and disable Secure Boot. After that, insert your pen drive and keep pressing the F12 key until the Boot Manager window appears. Then, select the USB option.

I disabled secure boot, followed your instructions, but when I get to this screen and choose usb and hit enter, it just reverts to same screen, doesn’t launch. Tried a few times.

You never, never want to try and update the BIOS when your OS isn't running right. Fix the problem first before you try anything risky like a BIOS update. For a correctly made Windows install flash disk there is no reason to disable secure boot, and disabling it leaves you with a big security hole. In the recovery screen that you can access already, navigate to a command prompt and then use diskpart to look at that WDC 512GB SSD. Use these commands:

    list disk
    sel disk 0
    list part
    list vol

Where '0' is the WDC disk (yours might be '1' instead). Show us the results so we can verify the partitioning is correct on the drive. If that is all looking good we will likely have to try SFC and DISM to try and repair the existing Windows. If that turns out to not work right, then will be the time to do a reinstall of Windows over the existing install to get it fixed. Only after Windows is up and running without errors would you go ahead with a BIOS update.

    What's wrong with the Windows?

Doesn’t startup properly, and restart causes it to shut down. Often when I press power button it just begins process, gets past the Acer screen then powers down. If I’m lucky sometimes it takes me to recovery screen, but rarely does it just open windows.

Does reinstalling Windows do anything? Try to press the power button a couple of times to make sure that it is not stuck and causing the PC to repeatedly shutdown.

Have reinstalled several times, doesn’t change anything. Power button definitely not stuck. Thanks for suggestions though.

There is a guide to update the BIOS through EFI in the appendix folder. Have you tried to follow that?

yes, I did try that, system wouldn’t let me do it - no matter what I disabled. Then another advisor said not to do the bios upgrade until after problem solved.

For now, are you able to enter the Windows at all?

Sometimes I can get in, sometimes not. Usually best results when I haven’t used it in a while.
