Hi,

Since I have my new Predator Helios Neo 18 I have experienced instability problems on several games. On turbo mode, one of them is quite unplayable (crash generaly after 5 minutes, sometimes on load screen). Of course I started by removing mods, reinstall etc..

What bugs me is that on silent mode, everything runs fine. On normal mode, occasional crahs like one per half hour. On turbo mode : unplayable.

I was mainly playing only this game which I like very much.

Now I realized that I have this instability on several others on Steam. All games I used to play with my previous laptop with never a problem.

Again I have to reboot several time, set PredatorSense to 'Silent' mode and it starts being playable. With less crashes but still somes.

I donwload OCCT and tried different tests. I feared for a problem with the intel 14900HX. I was surprised that the geofrce 4070 test crashes after less than a minute on max perf mode. Seems to work (I did not wait an hour yet) on silent mode…

Should I be worried ?

What can I do ?

Is there a way to have a proof for ACER support (I would hate to ship the PC just to get it back several week with a nice (we tried it it seems to work) answer…

Thanks a lot in advance !!

Hi, use Balanced Power Plan in Predator Sense and "Best Power Efficiency" mode in Power & Battery settings (see picture):

Additionally open Task Manager-Processes and also Startup apps, check how many programs are running at the background and disable the programs you don't need, background processes should not exceed 80-90, uninstall all your preinstalled bloatware and 3rd-party browsers-virus checkers and trial programs.

Here's how to use the Predator modes on your Acer Predator Helios 18 laptop: (Some feature may or may not available depending on predator sense version and different model)

    Predator Modes

The Predator Helios 18 comes with several performance modes that you can select:

    • Quiet: Prioritizes low noise levels and reduced fan speeds for light tasks
    • Balanced: Provides a balance between performance and noise for everyday use
    • Performance: Increases performance for demanding workloads while allowing higher fan speeds
    • Turbo: Maximizes performance by allowing the CPU and GPU to run at higher clocks and fan speeds

    Manually Switching Modes

You can switch between these modes using the dedicated mode switch on the side of the laptop. However, this only changes the performance profile - it does not automatically adjust the fan speeds. To set custom fan speeds for each mode, you need to use the PredatorSense software:

    1. Open PredatorSense
    2. Select the mode you want to configure
    3. Adjust the fan speed slider to your desired setting
    4. Repeat for each mode

    Automatic Mode Switching

The laptop does not automatically switch between modes based on the workload. You need to manually select the desired mode using the hardware switch or Predator-Sense before starting a game or demanding task. For best performance in games, I recommend using the Turbo mode. This will allow the CPU and GPU to run at their highest clocks for maximum framerates. However, be aware that Turbo mode generates more heat and noise. If the fans are too loud in Turbo, you can try the Performance mode which offers a good balance of speed and noise. The Balanced mode is suitable for everyday use when you don't need maximum performance.
