Cannot adjust the display brightness on Acer R5-471T and Windows 10

I remember that I could change the display brightness of my Acer Laptop a long time ago. Also, the same applies to using night mode. I remember it was effective. I used to turn on night mode and could see changes in the display brightness, but now I can change it but no effect.

Now, I don't see the slider to adjust the screen brightness. Also, the Fn key combinations (Fn + left/right arrows) are not working at all but all other Fn key combinations are working.

I checked the website for driver updates but didn't find drivers for the Display, however, I found BIOS drivers.

Please help!

The screen brightness and the dark mode are in Win-10 so search for those setting in the search bar, as it should be easy. make sure that you have Win-10 updated to its last February 11, 2025—KB5051974 (OS Builds 19044.5487 and 19045.5487) as that is important and the last bios version 1.14 installed. You don't need drivers from Acer to install onto this laptop as all driver updates come from Win-10 updates and to this laptops last VGA driver for the integrated cpu Intel® HD Graphics 620 that this laptop has. Good luck.

I checked the Windows update and clicked check for updates again, now I see there is an update… Let me check if this will solve the problem.

The Windows update was completed successfully. Still, I cannot change the screen brightness. The slider is not showing and I looked everywhere possible but no luck.

If you haven't done a clean Install of your laptop ever, it might be a time to do this now, make sure that you backup all your personal files as a clean install deletes everything from the boot drive, so be aware of this first. So do a clean install of Win-10 and see if the brightness control comes back as its impossible that there is no screen brightness adjustment for this laptop.

To do a Clean Install do this - Construct a bootable USB drive with Rufus 4.5 and follow their guide, you will need the Win-10 .ISO file and then go into the BIOS > Main > F12 Boot Menu > which Enables, disables Boot Menu during POST > change that to Enable > then insert the Win-10 Rufus 4.5 bootable USB and press the F12 key and as soon as the "Acer logo appears" until the laptop gets into the Win-10 installation process and then start the reinstall of Win-10 and after it finishes, install all windows updates to the last OS build listed above. Good luck and hope this solves this problem.

Your new installation should have the below screen @ Win-10 Settings > Display > Change brightness and Night light On/Off switch also:

Check Power Options. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options and check that your power options aren't affecting the brightness on your screen. While there, check that the brightness isn't automatically adjusted by your PC or laptop. Update your display drivers.

Thank you all for your valuable replies. It's not a big problem but in the night, it's affecting me as it seems it's stuck on max brightness.

I'll check what I can do and post back with an update.
