PH18-72 Regarding BIOS Updates and Microcode Update.

Hello, I have a PH18-72-93VM. It has i9-14900HX and RTX 4080 Laptop GPU.

I wanted to ask that when Acer is going to give 0x12B microcode update to these laptops. I have been observing that Acer is favoring PHN16-72 in updates and has provided 0x129 MCU through BIOS update as it is a popular model.

I'm on the latest v1.10 BIOS which has 120h Microcode. PH18-72 is quite an expensive laptop, and I expect acer to give Critical updates like these to all Laptops, the fact that Acer doesn't care about these High-end Laptops is quite surprising and opposite to what many other OEMs do.

Your Predator Helios 18" model PH18-72 has had a recent microcode in bios 1.08 dated 2024/03/26 for the Intel cpu problems which is newer than my microcode on my PHN16-71 which is the 0x35 dated 2023/05/29 which is a fix for my laptop Intel cpu issues, the PH18-72 cpu the i9-14900HX has a different microcode ID than other cpu's and will not have the microcode 0x12B as the last microcode that you have is what you have is the 120h Microcode updated by Acer and they will not update tha microcode again, so don't wait for the 0x12B.

I hope you are getting the cpu microcode version from the CPUz software at its Mainboard section. Just as an example, I've got a PHN16-71 and my cpu is the i5-13500HX and its latest version microcode is not 0x12B microcode that all the articles seem to quote as the Intel fix, but my laptop has the microcode 0x35 from bios dated 2023/05/29 from Acer and its the last and latest for this laptop model, so the latest microcode for your PH18-72 is the 120h. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

I'm referring to PHN16-72 because it has i9-14900HX, the same CPU as PH18-72. Acer has provided PHN16-72 with 0x129 MCU, which although is not the final microcode from Intel, it is better than nothing. The final microcode from Intel is 0x12B. The Microcode on my system is 0x120 or 120h (checked through AIDA and CPU-Z.)

Acer can at least provide 0x129, if not 0x12B since it has already been given to PHN16-72, a laptop with the same Processor. Other OEM's Laptops with Same 14900HX processor have been provided with 0x12B microcode update.

    PHN16-72 0x129 BIOS Update:

This BIOS update (10/22/2024) was also released 7 days before PH18-72's latest v1.10 BIOS update (10/29/2024). So pretty sure Acer could have given it but actively refused to do so. Also, PHN16-72 seems to be getting more latest updates (like Intel ME Firmware). Acer should also focus on the much higher end and expensive products.
