I bought an USB-C to DP 1.4 and, for some reason, the GPU that gets connected to the external monitor is the igpu and not the dgpu. Why is this happening? I'm sure that in this laptop the alt mode gets connected to the external gpu.

I'm sorry, but, who edited the question? The problem is that the dgpu doesn't connect to an external monitor using alt mode. Only the igpu does.

Hi, you probably mean integrated GPU not external GPU? You can check in Nvidia Control Panel what port is used by the dGPU, if BIOS has a MUX switch you can change that. Default for USB-C DP Alt mode is dGPU.

Hi, my laptop is the Acer Nitro ANV16-41 and yes, it does have a MUX. But the usb-c alt mode defaults to the igpu in all the two modes (Optimus and d-gpu only). From what i've read, my laptop should output signal directly from the 4060 when using the usb-c displayport alt port in the back. It doesn't, though, as it defaults the output from the iGPU.

I've researched this problem a bit over the internet, and it seems that even ROG Zephyrus users are suffering from this problem.

Hi, enter BIOS Setup: Power off your laptop completely by holding the Power key down for 5 seconds. Power it on and press the F2 key as soon as the Acer logo appears to enter the BIOS setup.
Navigate to Advanced Settings: Use the arrow keys to select the Advanced tab. You may have to press Ctrl+S.
Change Display Mode: Look for the Display mode option and change it from Optimus to Discrete GPU only.
Save (F10) and Exit: Select the Exit tab, choose Exit Saving Changes, and confirm.
If your laptop has the NitroSense application, you can also enable the Discrete GPU only option through there:
Open NitroSense: Click on the Settings icon (gear icon) in the upper right corner.
Select Discrete GPU: Choose the Discrete GPU only option and move the slider to the right to enable it.
Restart Your Computer: Close NitroSense and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
