Newbie Installing 2nd HDD Hard Drive In TC-885. What Cables Will I Need?

I'm installing a Seagate BarraCuda HDD 3.5 inch hard drive because my stock hard drive is failing after six years. After installation, I'm going to clone the new hard drive and remove the original.

I have mounting screws and a Benfei SATA Cable III HDD data cable. I presume I need a power cable as well. I haven't had a good look inside the case so I don't know what is already there.

For a 3.5" HDD for the TC-885 desktop you will need the below cables to be attached to the main PSU of your desktop to power the drive, you can buy these cables from after market supplies also as they are cheaper. Serch the web with the below references as there are many on the market. Good luck.

The cables shown:

convert the standard SATA HDD power connectors from the PSU (wide ends) to the power connectors used on ODDs (narrow ends). HDDs and SSDs in both 2.5" and 3.5" form factors have the wide type connectors built in on them, so don't need the adapter cables. If there aren't enough SATA power connectors coming off the PSU to get to all drives, you likely need a Y cable to splits the power for one drive to two drives.

I have a follow up question. I'm having trouble finding the above part online. Most sites list it as out of stock or they're in Europe. Can I use a splitter instead?

Those cables are for connecting an optical drive and not needed for a HDD or SSD. They convert the wider HDD/SSD power connector to the narrow one used in slimline DVDs. You have the wide connector as part of your stock power supply.

Yes that is the power SATA cable that connects to the PSU, I only gave the Acer listed cable for the Sapire TC-885 as an example and the above cables are NOT just for DVDs like stated above, as that is what Acer lits in the service guide of the TC-885.
