Acer PHN16-71 Headphone Jack issue. Have a few questions to ask.

Hi Acer Community,

I bought a PHN16-71 last april and have been using it for mostly gaming so I ended up buying a Razer headset. It has all been working fine for the last few months until a few days ago, while playing Humankind the sound went muffled and crackly especially on the left side.

I did my typical troubleshooting and used other headphones, checked if the headphone jack is dirty, any conflicting audio programs, updates to drivers, etc.. but nothing was working.

Built in Speakers, Bluetooth earphones and external monitor all sound fine, which lead me to conclude its probably the jack. I called technical support and they ultimately suggested a factory reset, which I did but with no resolution to the problem.

My questions are:

  1. has anyone had this happen with their Acer Gaming laptops?
  2. Acer Tech Support is asking me to ship my laptop to their repair facility, how do they provide me the shipping box, etc… has anyone shipped their laptop before and is it safe?

Thank you.

There is no advantage using a corded headset instead of a Bluetooth one, I don't know which exact Razor headset model you are using but what you are experiencing should not happen. Your PHN16-71 must have a faulty audio port and it depends what version PNH16-71 you have as the ones with the RTX4060 Acer will change the IO board to the one below. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

    Answers to your questions:

    1. I'm using the same exact laptop PHN16071 and I've never ever experienced your problem with plugged in headsets or BT headsets, your PHN16-71 laptop has a faulty audio or port.
    2. To ship your laptop to Acer Tech Support go to this page in your countries Acer Drivers and Manuals page > Contact Acer and ask Acer in your country how to ship this laptop to their Tech support, as all the links like Repair my Acer page bellow screen takes you nowhere and doesn't work.
