Hi,

I have an Acer Veriton N4660G with a 35 watt cpu. The device has enough power for a 65 watt cpu but would like to know if this device can handle it such as heat.

The Acer Veriton N4660G was fitted with only one type of an Intel B360 chipset mainboard and one type of fan, but its cpu heatsink cooler were different for the 35W and 64W TDP cpu's (see list below), so you need to change that if you can but those heatsinks anymore? The top spec cpu for the N4660G is the Intel Core i9 9900 3.1G 16M 2666 Octa Core that needs a 65W heatsink. But what you can do is get a much better aftermarket cpu cooler (see the Noctes LGA1151 cpu coolers range) that will cool the cpu down 100% better, so search for a cpu cooler that is suitable for this desktop. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

So can I use a 65 watt cpu with the fan that came with in the system? Or do I get a new fan too.

You need to upgrade the heatsink as the 35W heatsink is too small and the 65W cpu needs a bigger heatsink like listed above, see if you can get the Acer genuine 65W heatsink, or upgrade the whole cpu cooling system with a better and a more appropriate cpu cooler as the 35W heatsink of your desktop is not suitable for a 65W TDP cpu like the i9-9900 or any 65W TDP cpu's, as it will overheat. Good luck.

See if the Noctua NH-L9x65 chromax.black will fit as this is a low profile cpu cooler that they have as they have many more, so look them up also as Noctua has dimensions so you know what their cooler sizes are.

The case for your N4660G is pretty thin, so most, if not all, the aftermarket coolers will be too tall.

Thank you for your help. I found some other good cpu's which are 35 Watts.

Just remember you have to also stay within the same generation, so if your system is running a gen 8 chipset , the gen 9 CPUs aren't likely to work, even if the socket is the same. They shipped the early versions of your model with 8th gen (R01-xx BIOS), then changed to 9th gen (R02-xx BIOS) later during the availability period.

Thanks for the 8th to 9th gen CPU info. In this video a 9th gen is in the system, looks like it’s working. Says at 3:30 in the video upgraded to an I5 9400F. I would stick with a 35 watt CPU however.

That video shows that the CPU was originally a Celeron G4930, which is 9th gen, and upgraded to another 9th gen CPU, so no moving from one generation to another.
