I have a near 5 year old acer swift 3 SF314-41….amd athlon varient…When i close the lid completely the lid doesn't seem to sit flush. Unlike other laptops i have that seem to stick to the bottom panel. My swift 3 does not. The lid keeps opening and closing , it looks like the lid flops about 1cm up and down and does not hold and stay shut when closed. It is not a new issue. It had existed the day I got my laptop but I have been using a 15 inch laptop sleeve and i am kind of worried that this lid behavior may impact the integrity of the hinges.

It sounds like the hinges are starting to pull loose from the case. That's not uncommon on any thin and light laptop, due to the decreased area require to stay thin. I typically build the screw mounts back up using a metal based epoxy, then reseat the screws and it stays well for a long time after the repair.

I don't think that is the case…..I had recently opened up the laptop in order to clean the vents and re-paste the CPU thermal paste as the temps were reaching 90 degree Celsius plus very easily………..I took a moment to inspect the hinges and they all were okay…both of the hinge units in the bottom pannel assembly were tight….My original plan was to loosen the hinge nuts and apply some lithium grease on them….But i couldn't find the hinge nuts as anticipated and resorted to dusting the hinges and applying regular oil on them to smooth it out……It works well now after lubricating the bottom hinges with bicycle chain oil (parktools synthetic blend)…..but the flopping thinggy still persists……It has been there since the day I got the laptop unboxed….my theory is that the laptop has no magnets on the bottom panel to hold the lid in place like on my other laptops
