I am using and game in my aspire A515-57 laptop while the charger plugged in with optimized battery charging thatstops at 80%.

My question is does after charging up to 80% does it use the A.C power from charger or use the battery

Will it affect my laptops battery backup?

Thank you

Don't use the 80% battery limiter in Acer Care Centre as it does nothing. The battery should be plugged into the adapter 24/7 if you are using the laptop on a desk and in an office. The battery is not used at all only when the laptop is unplugged from the adapter. I've got the exact Aspire A515-57 laptop and to improve performance upgrade the laptops PCIe 4x4 boot drive to a high end drive like a Samsung 990 Pro NVMe and more ram like and min 16GB (max 32GB) DDR4-3200MT/s CL22 and you will improve this laptops performance by 100%. Note, that this laptops 2nd M.2 SSD slot is a Gen 3 x4 lane type and not a Gen 4. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Hi, MS ACPI battery protocol switches the system to the power adapter directly when the battery is disconnected after 80% charging but given the many issues with Modern Standby reported on this forum, I would not count on it and disable the 80% charge limiting option as there are no benefits to be gained from it. Also, you will be reducing your battery backup by 20% that can mean 1 hour less battery lifespan depending on your power plan and system use. My recommendation is not using Battery Calibration, Optimizations and charge limiting as none of this has been proven in studies to be useful. The Li-Ion has a Smart chip that diverts adapter/charger power to the system after 99.99% battery charge. The only valid procedure is the Full Charge Cycle that must be done once with a new battery and after reinstalling the OS to register the full charge capacity (not Design Capacity which is just a value entered by the vendor) in BIOS and MS ACPI.

Optimized battery charging on the A515-57 helps extend battery life by learning your charging habits. It slows down charging when it knows you are not using your laptop, which is a great feature for long-term battery health.

There is no such things as a " feature to extend battery life" or for "long-term battery health", battery longevity is a myth spread on the web, based on old NASA reports long debunked by studies (see Cyclic Memory Effect, NiCd batteries).
