The Nitro N50-640 desktop has provisions for 2x PCIe 4 x4 lane M.2 SSD drives and 2x SATA 3 3.5" or 2,5" mechanical or 2.5" SSD drives. The best Gen 4 x4 M.2 drive is the Samsung 990 Pro NVMe with Heatsink and the same with the 2.5" SATA 3 that is the 2.5" Samsung 870 EVO SSD drive which you will need a cady to fit into the N50-640 HDD cage.

Buy a 3.5" to 2.5" caddy so that you can fit a 2.5" SATA 3 SSD drive which are allot quicker and more reliable (if you buy a good quality brand like Samsung as I've use these drives for 5years now and they are still perfectly working) than the mechanical drives.

These are the drives that Acer fits oem to this desktop which are not necessarily the best or quickest drives that your desktop can use and be fitted with, as Acer fits these drives to be competitive on the market.

    Gen 4 x4 M.2 SSD drives

    SATA 3.5" drives

As for size, any that you can afford will work fine. I have two 2TB SSDs in my desktop along with two 8TB HDDs.
