What to do as I am running out of storage space of my recently-purchased ( November, 2024) A115-32? Windows Update is depleting almost all remaining storage of my drive.

Running out of storage on your Acer Aspire 1 A115-32 can be quite frustrating! To free up space, you can use the built-in Disk Cleanup tool to remove temporary and system files, uninstall any apps or programs you no longer use, and consider storing infrequently accessed files on an external storage device. Additionally, you can upgrade the storage by installing an M.2 NVMe SSD, which significantly increases your capacity.

Your Aspire A115-32 laptop has an M.2 SSD Gen 3 x4 boot drive, of either 128Gb, 256GB or the biggest capacity that Acer fitted which was a 512GB M.2 SSD drive, you have two choices, either clone and extend the M.2 boot drive with a 2TB M.2 SSD Gen 3 x4 drive or buy a 2nd 2.5" SATA 3 mechanical or SSD drive and extend the storage for this laptop and transfer all the files and apps onto the 2.5" drive with a software like FreeFileSync that will transfer files between two drives really quickly.

The next quickest way and easiest is to buy a 2TB M.2 SSD Gen 3 x4 drive and do a clone of your existing boot drive and then you will have all the space you will ever need for windows updates and also storage. But you will need to buy an external M.2 USB-C cable case and insert the new 2TB drive into that and plug into the laptop and do the clone.

Hi, this laptop supports a 2.5" HDD or SSD up to 2TB and a m.2 SATA SSD or m.2 NVME SSD up to 1TB The eMMC boot drive is soldered on-board and cannot be upgraded. I recommend getting a M.2 NVMe SSD for the PCIe Gen3x4 slot like the Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN550 NVMe Gen3 or Samsung 970 Evo Plus up to 1 TB and backup the boot drive to an external USB backup drive using W7 Backup Image creator in Control Panel that will make a USB Recovery drive at the end. Then remove the Windows OS from the eMMC drive, boot with the USB Revovery drive and restore the backup to the new M.2 drive.

    Hi @radhaknkr

    1. Please open Windows Explorer
    2. Right click Local Disk (C:) (or secondary click)
    3. Near the middle of the Properties window what does the Capacity say?
    4. Also, what does Used space say and Free Space say?

    For example:-

    Used space: 100 GB

    Free Space: 400 GB

    Capacity: 500 GB

Let us work together to sort this out.

First, perform Cleanboot to free up space, check the apps and files you don't need need and delete them.

Also can you please take a screenshot of your file explorer when it shows your storage space.

    -Press Windows key + R
    -Click on This Pc
Take a screenshot and post it here.

Restart your computer once done, once done restarting and when you free up space use the Treesize app.

You can use the tool called Treesize to check what are the apps or files taking most of your storage space.

    Here's the link to download.

    https://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free

Once downloaded and installed, open the app and identify what are the apps or files taking most of your storage space.

Check the things you don't need, right click on it and hit "Delete" to free up space.

Once done restart your computer and check.

I hope the information above helps.
