I have an windows 10 NON upgradeable to 11 Desktop that has 16GB ram and enough hard drive space— just can't upgrade because of the stupid processor disqualification.

So…This computer runs great still. Hate hate hate to add to landfills…All I want to do is play videos and music on this computer. I am a guitarist who uses for this for learning songs.

I need instructions on how to install LINUX MINT Cinnamon on this computer.

this is not my main computer so I have room to experiment

Yes, at eight years old it's not too surprising you can't upgrade to Windows 11, Microsoft cut that off a couple of years later than that. You don't actually need to upgrade if all your are doing is playing videos and music, unless you are accessing those through shady websites that might be using security holes to do bad things.

If you do want to install Linux on it, you first need a Linux install flash drive, then enter the BIOS and enable the boot menu. Save and exit the BIOS, the put the flash drive in a USB port, turn the computer on and press F12 to get the boot menu. Choose the flash drive from the menu and the installer will start up. Note that you will either have to backup your music and videos from the system first, because the usual Linux install will replace Windows and your data will be lost. There are hoops you can jump through if needed first to make that not happen, by putting you into a dual boot setup.

    Thank you...

always appreciate your responses...and just to assure you, not accessing music through bad sites.

Not too sure about setting up a dual boot setup...just wanted to have a secure setup and some suggested using Linux or Google Chrome operating system, which I understood were built the same...of course my concern is that Linux is open source and shady sites are offering it as a download with malware attached…so Where can I get the official Linux Mint system download.

If you have any more steps on setting up Linux I would appreciate it.
