I have to upgrade my 5 1400 to something better like 5 5600x. Does the bios update (R01-A4) support Ryzen 5000 series cpus?

No, the Acer Aspire GX-281 desktop and its last bios version R01-A4 is only compatible with the cpu’s listed below, as the AMD 5000 cpu’s were made compatible with the AMD B350 chipset that the GX281 desktop has in 2022 but you need a special updated bios for the Aspire GX-281 mobo B350 chipset to work with the AMD 5000 cpu’s and the last Acer dated: 2018/03/05 and version: R01-A4 bios for the Aspire GX-281 desktop doesn’t have those provision to run the 5000 AMD cpu’s.

The easiest and best way to make your GX281 desktop compatible with the AMD 5000 cpu’s is to buy a new mobo, the oem size of the Aspire GX-281 desktop mobo is a square special Acer proprietary size that is 7.9 x 9.6 inches (200 x 244mm) which is close to a form factor size of a Micro-ATX mainboard, so buy a new Micro-ATX mainboard that will be compatible and will fit into the oem Aspire GX281 desktops case and will work with the AMD 5000 cpu and has a bios for that cpu.

Or update your existing Ryzen 5 1400 AM4 cpu to the Ryzen 7 1700X AM4 cpu as that will work perfectly and all you need to do is just buy a cpu that is allot cheaper and will give you a huge performance increase if you run the max ram of 64GB @ 4x 16GB DDR4-2400MT/s and a GTX1070 8GB gpu that Acer fitted to this desktop oem. Good luck and hope this helps you out.
