my desktop aspire tc-865 series model D17E5 was unable to find the boot device, I have try to get into the bois to setup boot device, and selecting hard drive or usb boot with a usb device, none of them is working, keep popopping up "Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected device and press a key". The bios show that recognized the hard drive but still no boot, and have checked the hard drive is working good on other computer.

Please if anyone can help to solve this problems, thank you.

#1 Be sure that BOOT ENABLED or Enable Boot is Enabled in Bios.

BE SURE that the drive has a bootable image on it.

Then reboot by tapping F12 key it should get you into a boot screen to select.

BE sure that that it is the only hard drive attached.

My image is of a USB F12 screen but yours will/should only be only the hard drive unless you have a bootable formatted USB.

First thank you for responding my question Mr Larryodie, I did reboot the system and press F12, the results are the same thing. Before I do this, I tested the cable, the hard drive with the system on it and the boot up USB on another system, I clipped some picture with this post for your rereference.

Create you a win usb if your hdd is not bootable then transfer the usb to the hdd per instructions in this link'..https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-installation-media-for-windows-99a58364-8c02-206f-aa6f-40c3b507420d

For some reason the above post last night didn't post ???? , I would suggest creating the USB per instructions then booting and it will put the windows on your hard drive as I don't think that it is on there or corrupt ?

If the USB is bootable in a UEFI system and you hit the F12 when you first power up (at the same time as you would normally try to get into the BIOS), you should see the boot menu and it should list the USB drive. Very likely either the main drive (WD HDD) has failed or the EFI partition on it is corrupt. A drive failure is much more likely than a corrupted partition, unless you have secure boot disabled and you have been hit my malware. The other potential possibility is a problem with your Optane memory in the M.2 slot. If it has failed it's possible that that is blocking or corrupting access to the EFI partition on the HDD.

Thanks Billsey and Larryodie, I disconnected all the devices, only the motherboard, power supply, CPU, memory and boot it with a window bootable USB, still don't get to boot it. I think as you said it was hit by malware.

have you loaded your default BIOS .

I think F9 then save with F10 in bios.

Als removing the CMOS battery and unplugging from AC input for a 12 hour period or so should reset your BIOS to default that is built in on the board.

Why don’t you use the TC-865s desktops quickest drive slot its PCIe 3 x4 lane M.2 slot for the boot drive and put a good M.2 drive in there, as the WD2500BEVS-60UST0 is a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 250GB 5400RPM SATA 1.5Gbps 8MB Cache 2.5-inch Internal Hard Drive and its pretty old and is faulty with either a platters damage or its read/write head is damaged too and its not worth repairing. I suggest that you upgrade and replace this drive with a Samsung 870 EVO SATA 3 SSD drive as it will perform 100% better and be much more reliable. Good luck and hope this helps you out some more.

With it in that state, what is displayed on the screen when you turn it on, and what does the F12 key show you? Can you take pictures?

thank you Billsey, when I started it and press F12, the screen jump to "reboot and select proper boot device", actuallly I had a bootable USB plug-in and that USB is fine and tested with other motherboard. I have been trying many different ways , none of them work out.

DELETED as I see that you do get into bios BUT TRY TAPPING the F12 key as sometimes I can't get in by holding the F12 key ???
