How can I fix the high temperatures (90-100°C) and low FPS issues on my Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-58) with

I own an Acer Nitro 5 (Model: AN515-58) with the following specs:

  • Intel Core i7-12650H (12th Gen)
  • NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM
  • Native resolution: 2560x1440 (2K)

I'm experiencing high temperatures and low FPS during gaming and general use. Here are the details:

  1. Gaming Performance:
    • While gaming at 1080p, even for relatively simple games like Dark Souls and GTA 5, I get low FPS despite having a high-performance laptop.
    • When set to "Balanced" power mode, the temperatures hover around 92-93°C, and in "Performance" mode, they spike to 100°C.
  2. Non-Gaming Use:
    • When performing non-intensive tasks like watching YouTube or browsing (with no background apps running), temperatures sometimes hit 90°C.
    • The issue persists regardless of whether the discrete GPU is active or not.

I've ensured all drivers and Windows updates are up to date, and the laptop is clean and placed on a flat surface for ventilation.

How can I resolve these high temperatures and low FPS issues? Are there specific settings, optimizations, or cooling techniques I should use? Could this be a hardware defect?

Update the bios to the last bios version 2.16 as your laptop has the version 2.10, also update the gpu firmware to the version 104a first before you do anything else. Then update Win-11 to version 24H2 and all the update to OS build: 26100.2605 as that will install all the latest and most appropriate drivers for this laptop and for the Intel and NVidia graphics.

Also install the NVidia GeForce Experience software and play all games within that software for ultimate settings for all supported games. If you haven’t changed the paste on the cpu and gpu and vram chips do that as your laptop is due for that maintenance, as the combination of these things will ensure that your Nitro 5 AN515-58 laptop will run cooler and at it peak performance, also buy a good multi fan laptop tablet cooler, as that helps also. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

below is a suggesting of the pastes and thermal pads for the vram chips that I used on my Nitro AN515-56 laptop which works very well and it keeps this laptop very cool, so I suggest that you do the same or get a technician to do this job for you.

Use the Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal for the CPU (Note: follow the PDF guide below with liquid metal paste strictly as this paste is conductive and will damage your mainboard if applied excessively) while for the GPU you should apply the Kryonaut Extreme that is a high performance paste and for the VRAM chips apply their Minus Pad Extreme which come in two sizes of 120x20mm and 100x100mm @ thicknesses of 0.5.1.0.1.5,2.0 and 3.0mm and stack them up evenly so that the cpu/gpu paste and the pads touch the thermal module evenly, as that is how and the purpose of the thermal module to be applied.
