I was recently given an Aspire V5-122P laptop, however, it is unusable as it runs EXTREMELY slow (an issue I know is common to this model). I know that the laptop has had some modifications made to it, but I do not know the full extent of the changes. I do know it runs Windows 11 Pro on a 64-bit operating system, and I am assuming the additional RAM was installed at some point.

Issue: The laptop recognizes 10GB of RAM but states that only 1.44 GB is usable. It runs incredibly slow because of this

I am not very tech savvy, but I have attempted everything I know to do or have looked up with no success.

So far, to fix the issue, I have tried:

  • Running memory diagnostics, no issues were found
  • Verified it is running on the 64-bit operating system
  • Attempting to update the BIOS - The Acer website does not list any BIOS updates for the model. I have tried entering the serial number and SNID in the search bar but both result in a message saying they are invalid. This is the only solution that I didn't really get to try since I cannot find any BIOS updates anywhere for it.

The only things I know to do that I have not tried yet are inspecting the physical RAM or attempting to remove or re-insert it yet.

I know that this model can have issues correctly recognizing the RAM and can require a low voltage stick. However, before I have to purchase a different stick entirely, I was hoping to exhaust all other potential solutions.

As I said, I am not incredibly knowledgeable in this field, so any and all help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
