I am writing to seek your assistance regarding two display issues I have encountered with my Acer laptop. Incident 1: On a recent morning, my laptop failed to display anything on the screen upon startup. After waiting for a while, I pressed the power button, but nothing showed up. I pressed the power button again, and the screen displayed as normal. Incident 2: Today, I left my laptop idle for about an hour. When I returned, there was no display on the screen. I waited for a while and then pressed the power button, but nothing showed up. After pressing the power button again, the screen displayed as normal. Both incidents have caused concern, and I would appreciate your advice on how to resolve these issues.

Those symptoms are normal on these laptops as the screen takes a while to come back on, this is due to the EC chip delay, you would be advised to update the bios to the last 1.62 which also has the version 1.61 “Updates EC version, Intel ME and GOP driver version” of the EC chip as that should fix this problem for you.

Also make sure that you have the latest Win-11 version 24H2 installed and all the windows updates to the last December 2024 OS build 26100.2605, as this update also installs all the latest and appropriate Intel and NVidia graphics drivers for your Aspire A515-58GN model laptop. If and after doing all the updates the laptop still has the same problems then do a Hard Reset.

For a Hard Reset you need to take the main battery out, disconnect the bios battery and short its mobo plug +&- pins (to reset CMOS) then take the ram out, leave the laptop like for 1 hour so that it resets its EC chip and chipset chips properly, reconnect everything back, if you have 2x ram modules only connect one and alternate the ram and see if its the ram that is faulty, if your laptop still has the black screen take your laptop to a technician so that they can pinpoint the exact fault and if the EC chip is faulty and needs replacing and programming or it could be the chipset chip which is a chip that is allot harder to replace, if it can be rep[laced at all, as that is where these sorts of screen issues can come from or it could be the screen or its eDP cable. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Your laptop might be experiencing a static charge whereas it thinks it is already powered on. To release the static charge do as some of the others suggested about removing the power cord and battery then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds put the power cord back in (leave the battery out) then press the power button to see what happens. If nothing happens remember that the laptop can work off the power cord or the battery, but the battery receives a charge from the power cord.if the power cord is bad, the battery will eventually drain and you’ll have no power source to make the laptop power on. On most computers once you plug in the power cord there might be a light on the square block on the power cord to let you know it is working. Also there might be a light around the keyboard some place to let you know the laptop is receiving power from the power cord. Also some laptops emit a light where the tip of the power cord plugs into the laptop. If you don’t see a light someplace then most likely your power cord is bad. After all the aforementioned steps if you do see lights that lets you know your power cord is working but your laptop is still not powering on your laptop might be in the middle of processing updates. Updates can take up to 2 to 3 hours to process.

Display Issues on Acer Laptop Aspire A515-58GM

Thank you, Steven and Axxo, for your comments. My laptop was only 2 days old when I faced this issue. Would that make a difference?

No, as I've told you above, laptops experience EC chip freeze if they are new or old, but new laptops that new should not be experiencing these sorts of issues, the best thing if the laptop is that new is to send it to Acer tech support if you are that worried and if this keeps happening all the time irrespective of time limits, as it should not be happening. This laptop either needs a hard reset which you cant do as I don't suggest that you open the back of the laptop, or its EC chip is failing and needs replacing, but that is only if the latop keeps doing that allot and not turning on, its your choice. Good luck.
