I have a stock ram of 1x16 GB-4800, I am planning to upgrade it to 32 GB with Gskill 2x16 GB-4800 RAM kit (https://www.gskill.com/product/2/384/1651806404/F5-4800S3434A16GX2-RS-F5-4800S3434A16GA2-RS). My current RAM has a CAS latency of 40, and the new RAM I'm planning to upgrade to has a CAS latency of 34. Can I upgrade to it?

No, you should get one 16GB RAM stick with the same specifications as your pre-installed RAM and use it will your pre-installed ram. This ensures the best 32GB dual-channel performance.Specs that need to be identical include:

    • CAS Latency (CL rate)
    • Voltage
    • Frequency
    • Size
    • Rank
    • Memory profile

The RAM I suggested won't work because:

    • It supports XMP, but your laptop does not
    • Even if the RAM works, it may cause system instability
    • Without XMP, the CAS latency will be higher than advertised

    Recommended Solution:
Choose a standard RAM module like Crucial 16GB RAM with identical specifications to your pre-installed RAM. This will guarantee optimal compatibility and performance.

    Some tips-

    • Use CPU-Z to determine your current RAM specs by check SPD tab and Memory tab. CPU-Z provides detailed information about your RAM. If you have any doubts or need clarification, check the RAM model number in CPU-Z and search for it on Google to find exact specifications such as CAS latency (CL), voltage, frequency, and more.
    • I do NOT recommend using two RAM sticks of different specs, as this can lead to performance issues and is generally a waste of money. So, make Sure to match specs.
