Can I upgrade my HDD to an M.2 2280? Want to upgrade my Acer Nitro AN515-53.

I want to upgrade my Acer Nitro AN515-53. I know that it is compatible with a SATA SSD, but I want to know if it would support an M.2, more specifically, a Kingston SNV2S/2000G 2TB. I've tried looking for answers but found none.

The Nitro AN515-53 M.2 SSD slot is specified by Acer as a "Storage 1 : M.2 2280 for SSD (PCIe/SATA Co-lay), design reserve for Intel Optane" type slot, which means that the slot has a max speed of an "M key" PCIe 3x2 M.2 SSD drive and can be also fitted with a Gen 3 x4 lane drive or a Gen 4 x4 lane drive or even a Gen 5 x4 lane drive which but all these drive will work at max 2000MB/s read/write speeds and this laptops M.2 slot is also compatible with am M.2 SATA 3 "B key" drive.

I suggest that you get a mid-range M.2 SSD drive like the WD SN-540 PCIe3x 4 lane drive and don’t waste your money on a Gen 4 x4 drive like Kingston SNV2S M.2 NVMe Gen4 SSD 2TB as your Nitro AN515-53 laptop will never ever use that speed of this sequential read/write speed of up to 3500/2800 MB/s, 640TBW, compact M.2 2280 design, also DO NOT buy this drive with the low profile graphene aluminum heat spreader as you will not be able to close the back lid of your laptop from the heatsink.

Do NOT buy the Kingston SNV2S M.2 NVMe Gen4 SSD 2TB with the low profile graphene aluminum heat spreader

Note: that all "M Key" PCIe Gen 3 or 4 or 5 M.2 SSD drives are backward compatible so they will fit and work with this AN515-53 laptops M Key M.2 SSD slot, but at a max 200MB/s read/write speed. Good luck

    Will a Team group

    MP33 M.2 PCIe SSD

    work in a Nitro 5 515-53?

Team Group drives are not compatible with allot of Acer PCs, I would buy drives from reputable manufactures like a WD SN530 as that would be an ideal M.2 SSD drive for your old AN515-53 laptop as that is all that it needs to operate properly and to its max M.2 SSD slot speed.

Thank you, I appreciate the input. I have only the one slot (and the 2.5" SSD compartment). I'm assuming that the maximum Gigabytes for this laptop is 1000 (from what I see when researching the

    WD SN530)?

Second; I upgraded the stock 8gb to 16gb using a G.Skill DDR4 'Ripjaws' RAM. At first it didn't take and Windows refused to load. After resetting Win 11, everything's running fine. Commment?

OK, I've got another opinion, this time from SanDisk customer support. Since I'm going to be using the Laptop for gaming they suggested the WD Black SN850X NVME. https://shop.sandisk.com/products/ssd/internal-ssd/wd-black-sn850x-nvme-ssd?sku=WDS100T2X0E-00BCA0

However, you stated I'd never need that much speed with my rig. So, I'm thinking somewhere inbetween the SN350 and SN850 is the sweet spot.

Don't waste your money on a Gen 4 x4 lane M.2 SSD drive like the WD SN850x Black drive, as your AN515-53 will never ever operate at 7000MB/s read/write speeds, your AN515-53 has a PCIe3 x4 lane M.2 slot read/write is at max 3500MB/s which I suggest the best drive is the Samsung 970 EVO Plus (as I use this same drive on my Nitro AN525-56 and is a very speedy drive) as this is one of the quickest Gen 3 M.2 SSD drivers around and its the best supported drive on the market also with Samsung's Magician software and that has the interfered cloning section called Data Migration, its up to you.
