There should be two slots on motherboard for SSD. One is for Gen 3 and another one is for Gen 4. Now, a 256GB SSD on the Gen 3 slot with Windows 11 installation. I would like to clone the image of that 256GB SSD to a new 1TB Gen 4 SSD. Then, I take away the 256GB SSD from the Gen 3 slot and leave the 1TB SSD at the Gen 4 slot. After that, does it feasible to boot up the Windows 11? If yes, what detailed steps should I go through?

Hi, the full model is Acer Aspire 3 A315-59-34GG. (2022). There are two M.2 PCIe slots for NVMe Gen4 and Gen3 SSDs, up to 1TB has been tested by Acer (see table)

Yes, that will boot OK, but instead of cloning I recommend backing up the entire Gen3 boot drive to an external USB backup drive, remove the Gen3 boot drive and then restore the backup with a USB Windows Recovery drive to the new 1TB Gen4 SSD in Slot 1. To clone the target drive needs to be exactly the same size as the source drive. If you want to backup there is a very easy and free W7 Backup Image file creator in Control Panel. Let me know if you are interested in that. If you want to clone wait till someone else responds.

You can use Macrium reflect to clone OS from old SSD to the new SSD.

Thank you for your suggestion. Since Macrium reflect is no longer free, I am going to use AOMEI Backupper (free version) to clone it. I have a question about change of booting drives. Now, BIOS shows the following.

    Boot Mode: UEFI

    Secure Boot: Enable

Boot priority order: 1. Windows Boot Manager

After cloning, I may use some partition tools to extend the partition in the new ssd from 256GB to 1TB.

Then, can I use Windows Boot Manager to change the booting drive from old ssd to new one?

Also, is there any steps or settings I need to do?

AOMEI Backupper free version cannot clone the drive with OS.

Now, see if Macrium reflect 30-trial can help :p
