Old Acer G3-605 PC won't boot with new ram

Hey!

So i have this old-ish second hand Acer g3-605 pc, and it has been bluescreening quite a bit. The error messages pointed towards an issue with the ram, so after trying the usual fixes (updating drivers, checking memory health etc) i decided to buy new sticks of ram and switch them out. Checked that the new ram is Ddr3, same clock speed, same cas latency, only difference is that the new ram is 2x8gb instead of 4x4gb. The Pc won't turn on with the new ram. Sometimes i get to the acer logo screen, sometimes not even there. Can't access bios or boot menu. I tried few different slot confics, even filling up the empty slots with the old ram, but no luck. The pc still boots fine with just the old ram.

So, any ideas on how to get the pc to accept the new ram?

Which memory did you actually get? 8GB sticks are supported to a maximum of 32GB. Did you get DDR3L instead of DDR3 maybe? Here is the population matrix:

So 8GBx2 should be in slots 1&2, which are physically in the second and fourth slots away from the CPU.

This is the the Acer G3-605 desktops memory specs, modules types and the DIMM 1 to 4 placement order guide, you must have put one of the 8GB sticks in the wrong DIMM slot or the ram is not compatible with this desktop. One of the compatible ram is the Kingston 8GB DDR3-1600MT/s CL11 type ram, so see this rams specs and compare it to the new 8GB DDR3L-1600MT/s that you bought and installed, as they could be different.

Also update the bios to the last bios version P11.C1 that the G3-605 has and also clean the mainboards DIMM slots with an old tooth brush and some Isopropyl Alcohol to get rid of all the dust and corrosion that could have built up on these ports. Good luck and hope all this information helps you out.
