Hello,

I have an Acer Predator Orion 3000 PO3-640-ER11 desktop which recently ran out of warranty. I am wanting to upgrade the CPU fan/cooler but am having trouble finding a compatible fan to suit.
Has anyone done this upgrade? If so what have you used?
Was wondering if a Thermalright AXP90-X47 CPU Cooler would fit..? https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/cooling/cpu-coolers/106161-axp90-x47-black

Also what RAM upgrades have people done?

** Picture of motherboard to assist anyone understand layout/cooler config**

Cheers in advance,

LostAussie

Acer Community members have always used the Noctua cpu coolers as they are the best and most efficient and have the quietest fan system around. The models that have been used on the Predator Orion is the Noctua NH-U9S chromax.black that has the option of a dual fan or the bigger NH-U12S chromax.black, as these two cpu coolers will mount straight into the oem cpu screw points of the desktop with the Noctua adaptor and its an easy plug and play type install. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

With the ram this is the PO3-640 specs and what Acer suggests to be used as the ram modules for this desktop, so use the below as a guide.

Type of ram suitable and tested by Acer for the PO3-640 desktop

    Cheers StevenGen,

So just double checking but these are the items you're suggesting (fan and mount) correct?

    Regards,

    Aussie

You don't need the mounting kit, it is included with the NH-U9S, and same things goes for the thermal compound. $12 seems a little steep for alcohol wipes to me, so I'd skip those as well. Note that with the mounting, it's easier to just use the existing plate and M3x10mm screws than to go through the process of pulling the motherboard and replacing the plate with that one included with the NH-U9S.

    G'day Steven,

Finally getting around to doing all this. Just waiting for the Noctua NH-U9s to turn up this week.

Once installing the new RAM is it common to need to update the bios setting like XMP? I havent done much with PC's for quite a few years so pretty rusty with this stuff at the moment, and I barely touch this PC - its the wifes little gaming PC for Ark ha

You don't want to be purchasing XMP memory for this model, since XMP overclocking isn't enabled in the BIOS, so XMP memory will run at it's base speed, typically 2133 or 2400, not the 3200 the stock memory runs at.
