PH16-CPU is overheating (99°C), noticed when my laptop made this weird crackling/popping sound

I got this laptop back in July and recently for some reason the CPU spikes to 99°C. The GPU actually stays at a decent temp around 80 (with heavy gaming) but the CPU just peaks there. It's really odd because I've seen some other threads about this too but i do not experience any sort of frame drop. The only reason i figured out it reached this temp was after the right side of my laptop made this weird crackling/popping sound, thought it was the speaker at first but when muting it was still there.

For context I experience this with Playworld (which I did not have a problem with before) on performance mode and turned RGB off (because I thought it'd help against overheating).

The GPU is very acceptable but the CPU just peaks with low %s. Do I need to be worried about the cooling being busted or is this okay?

Also, I play in a VERY cold room, so that's not the problem.

Do I need to contact Acer to get it repasted?

If your Predator Neo 16 is the PHN16-72 model with the Intel 14th Gen cpu, which is the latest Neo model, then update the bios to its latest version 1.14 to fix the Intel cpu stability and heating problems that their 13th and 14th Gen cpu’s have had. Also be aware that the cpu in this laptop is designed to run hot and up to 110C temps as if it reaches those temp the laptop will turn off.

So, update the bios and also update Win-11 to version 24H2 and all its updates to OS build: 26100.2314 (that is the latest) as this new update installs all the latest windows driver for your latop also. Also, and if you game allot, install the GeForce Experience software and play your games through this NVidia software settings and put your laptop on top of a good multi fan tablet cooler so that its raised off the table, as that also assists in pumping in fresh air and in the laptops cross flow ventilation and reduces heat. Do all that as your temps will reduce considerably. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

I have the normal predator helios 16, not the NEO. Also I have a core I9 13 as shown in the screenshot

The cpu on the PH16-71 laptop 13th Gen i9-13900HX can also reach 110C before it switches off, So your laptop is designed to work at high temps. The RTX40xx gpu has a max range of 95C but anything above 90C is a concern and the laptop should be turned off, as there is an internal thermal issue.

PH16-71 CPU control Tj=100 temps specs @ Turbo mode, which is the most extreme mode for your laptop

CPU TCC Trigger = 100C
CPU OS Shut Down Trigger = 110C
CPU EC Shut Down Trigger = 110C
H/W Shut down: 95.5C

Overheating can be caused by poor ventilation, dust buildup, or failing cooling fans. Prevention: Ensure that your computer is well-ventilated, regularly clean the dust from your components, and check that all cooling fans are functioning correctly.

To help reduce the temperature, you can place the Laptop on a hard, flat surface, clean the air vents and fans, adjust power settings, use a cooling pad, or turn off the Laptop when not in use. If necessary, monitoring the temperature and consulting a professional is also recommended.

Get a powerful 5-fan cooling pad the size of your laptop and reduce the Max. Processor Power state to 95% when on power. Also use Balanced Power Plan instead of Maximum Performance Power Plan. Up to 95°C. under heavy load no issues, the CPU can sustain 100°C.Disable NVIDIA/AMD Dedicated graphics card for a while and test your temps.

Also boot in safe mode and open task manager with GPU ENABLED and see if you can check the temperature. If its hot, then graphics is the issue. Undervolting means to decrease power draw for better cooling and higher clocks of the cpu and can be done using Throttle stop.

ive issued it with the support of acer. Turns out in the benchmark test the multicore’s clocking is far too low and it’s necessary to send my laptop to a care center. Before I sent my laptop off I got acer care + just in case. Hope all goes well. Just before I sent it off the fan started making really weird noises so yeah.
