Hello. I'm having problem with my A515-45-R74Z battery.

I don't know if its the battery or Windows, but since yesterday, the battery icon was stuck at 100% with the charging icon despite it not being connected. Then, the battery icon would disappear and on the login page, it would show the battery icon with an X on it. I googled it, and I uninstalled both AC and ACPI battery drivers and let windows restart, but it didn't fix it. I disconnected the battery and connected it again, and for a few seconds it came back with the stuck battery icon, but then the icon disappeared. Also by this point, the computer turned off and I'm using my charger. I also did a Windows battery report from CMD and it does recognize my battery, but everything else it says "UNKNOWN"

Mind you, I got this laptop last year, so I really don't know if I need to replace the battery.

Anyways help would be greatly appreciated☺️

The battery is disconnected, open the laptop and unplug and connect again the battery to the motherboard power socket, there may be a bad contact/cable. Battery quality is OK was replaced last year, only issue is that the battery does not support Modern Standby in Windows (see red box picture), you are not telling us if your BIOS is updated to version 1.52 and if Windows is version 23H2 OS Build 22631.4460?

Hi, this model is from January 2021, but even so, a 3-year-old battery should still be OK, run a formal Windows battery report: Paste this in the command prompt: powercfg /batteryreport and open the report with your Edge browser, right click and select "Print to Microsoft PDF", attach the report to your reply, type @Puraw or use "Quote" when you reply so I will get an alert. Meanwhile check if your BIOS is up to date, version 1.52 from last year December has an EC fix (incl. power management).

I would suggest you to try each methods provided below to correct the issue:-

Firstly, please try running the troubleshooter:

Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Select troubleshoot tab > under "Find and fix other problems", click on Power > click on run the troubleshooter and follow on-screen directions.

Next, You can try uninstall your battery driver and scan for hardware changes:

Go to Start > Type "Device Manager" and hit enter > right click on your battery driver > select properties > select driver tab > click on uninstall device > select "Delete the driver software for this device" and click OK > In Device Manager, on the Action menu, select Scan for hardware changes > Wait for it to scan and reinstall the driver then restart your pc and check if the issue still persists.

Also, go to Start > Type "Windows Update Settings" hit enter > Click on "Check for updates" to ensure you have installed the latest windows update.

Restart your computer and check if the problem still persists.

If the issue still persists, try run the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files:

Hi and thank you for taking your time to help me. It says that it can't find the PDF to upload it, but I did checked that my BIOS version is v1.10 from December 9th 2021, so yeah oopsies. I never done a BIOS update so further help would be appreciated again.

The battery reports is stored in C:\Users\your name\battery-report.html right click on the file and select Open with Edge, then print to Microsoft PDF, select a folder in C:\ at the top of the screen and click on Print, attach that PDF file to your reply.

Click on this link to download BIOS, Unzip and right click on the Setup.exe file, run as Administrator. https://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/BIOS/BIOS/BIOS_Acer_1.52_A_A.zip?acerid=638367472465098014&Step1=&Step2=&Step3=ASPIRE%20A515-45&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Ah ok, I will update you when I unplug and connect the battery again and then do BIOS. I do have the Windows version you said.

I also want to add that I opened my laptop before to clean the fans 2 weeks ago, where I did disconnect the battery for safety reasons, but it everything went fine until 2 days ago.

When I opened it just now, it looks like it got loosened up. So I connected it properly now and it turned on without the charger.

I probably didn't connect it all the way in before. But for now it did fix the problem, so thank you Puraw. I will wait a while if the problem comes back and then do BIOS

Thank you for taking your time to help me, but it was my battery not being properly connected. Either way, thank you 😁
