Hi, i'm having problems with my Acer Predator Helios 16 - PH16-71 - i7-13700hx. The gpu (Nvidea RTX 4070) is oscillating between operating normally and slowing down as if it were without any load, this happens when I play a game or task that is heavy on the gpu, leaving me with around 14 fps, I also noticed that its consumption It's not going above 40W and it's not hitting the thermal limit. I recently changed the thermal paste and thermal pads to ensure that the notebook would remain healthy, but since then I've had this problem. I've tried updating the driver and activating only the dedicated gpu via Bios, but nothing worked. What can I do?

I don't know which paste and/or pad paste you used, but the PH16-71 will not function properly without a high end liquid metal and high end normal paste and vram pad materials. These Predator laptops especially these new laptops need a liquid metal paste on their cpu to operate at their oem specs as Acer only uses liquid metal for the cpu and normal paste for the gpu and some sort of liquid vram thermal paste that they don't specify.

My advice to you is to use the Thermal Grizzly paste and pads for your PH16-71laptop. Use the Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal for the CPU while for the GPU you should apply the Kryonaut Extreme that is a high performance paste and for the VRAM chips apply their Minus Pad Extreme which come in two sizes of 120x20mm and 100x100mm @ thicknesses of 0.5.1.0.1.5,2.0 and 3.0mm.

Try the above and also make sure that you have the last bios version 1.16 installed and if you are using the WD M.2 SSD the firmware provided by Acer, also update to Win-11 24H2 OS build 26100.2161 and all the windows updates and optional updates and of course the NVidia Ge Force Experience software and its latest drivers and play all your games through this software for best gaming settings for your NVidia gpu. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the quick response, but I don't think the temperature is the problem here because I put the gpu with the fans at maximum and it hit 85 degrees celsius, and the clock kept oscillating between 1810 mhz and 210 mhz, the cpu was around 75 degrees Celsius and have a high quality thermal pad, the bios and drivers are all up to date, the only problem is that Windows 24h2 has not yet appeared for installation, I believe it is because I live in Brazil.

The image shows the oscillation that in addition to the clock is also in the use of the gpu, I would appreciate it if you have any ideas, I will analyze the temperature part.

Try to install the 24H2 OS build: 26100.2161 onto your laptop with a stand alone download as it works great, be patient as it takes about 30 min and make sure that you shut down all background operations from 23H2 version apps when you do this update not a clean install of this version. Also you will need to reinstall all the software's and apps that you had even with the update of the 24H2, as the update also regains your old 23H2 settings and keys in a folder called windows.old, while a clean install will delete all that info, so be aware of all this.

This is the ISO download in the major languages as you have a choice of either an updated or a clean install. So download this file and put the .ISO file on your desktop and click the file and the installation will start. As this new version does improve speeds by at least 10-15%, stutters and response times for these gaming laptops with its windows oem drivers that it installs, so just leave all drivers like they are installed with this update, well it did for my Nitro AN515-56 with its RTX3050 i7-11370H and 32GB ram. Good luck and hope this helps you out

    • This is the download for the stand alone Windows 11 24H2 all editions 64-bit – 5.4GB: English | Spanish | German | French

Also, I'm using Thermagic 12.8 W/MK thermal paste, which is comparable to high-end pastes like some from Cooler Master and Noctua.

I checked the thermal paste and now it is stable, however, the watt consumption does not exceed 33W even with temperature space.

I bought a better thermal paste to test, nuctua nt-h1, I'll send you the results here.
